Help required PLEASE!!!!!!!

My Zed Has developed a big problem. The car seems to be retarding the ignition and running safety boost. Also when I turn the ignition on the little fan infront of the main fan is on constantly. I have tried to do an ECU diag test but the LED light is just constantly on!!!!!!. I have tried to clean and wiggle the Temp sensor to see if this sort the fan out but no luck. I am really at a loss here and would be very grateful guys for any help or advice as to what I should be looking for to sort this out.

Simon, has your car been chipped or fitted a different ECU, smithy

Simon - not sure on the ECU test one.. that is strange.. Have you tried shorting out the pins on the CONSULT port as the alternative method of putting it into diag mode? Also - disconnect the batt to reset the ECU and try it again, see if that makes any difference..

I think you're on the right tracks with the temp sensor though, that will do both things (put the car into safety boost, and potentially put the fan on) although I would have thought for different reasons (one if it's cold, the other hot!)..

Check the resistance of the ECU temperature sensor, at 20C it should be between 2.1 and 2.9kOhm, 50C 0.68 and 1.00kOhm, and 80C 0.3 to 0.33kOhm.

Thanks Aaron I will give it a go. Smithy it has had a new chip what do you think this may be the problem M8??

The ECU thinks the temp sensor (the big YELLOW one, on the radoator pipe, on front of the engine, the one secured with a small clip) is completely missing or disconnected.

Clean it.

About the ECU light....that's completely abnormal.

Was something done in this area. Any chance to put a Techtom or a Consult ass see what it does ?

Zee you

Thanks Henri

I think I will buy a new sensor for this and have done with it. The Car has a unichip on it, would this affect the ecu in this way?

This morning it worked ok from cold and then after about five minuted driving it went back into limp home mode, any thoughts M8???

If the ECU light is constantly on you have an ECU fault. Make sure the diag screw is set to off (fully counterclock wise). In this fail safe mode you will notice the problem you mention + the revs are also limited to 2400.

Disconnect & reconnect the battery then re-check.

Also check the ECU connector is very tight. (with the battery off)

The ECU thinks it is functioning correctly if the "Engine Check" (and ECU diag) light comes on before you start the car, then goes out. (The "Engine Check" light is a normal bulb and can blow)

You could always put the original chip back in to see what happens.

The Chips in the ECU will fit in 2 ways round. You must connect it the correct way round or it will get fried.
