Hi All,

Got (hopefully) a simple problem with a car im looking at buying - theres a little bit of wheel shake when braking, which is making me a little hesitant.

Looking round the car i see it has recent new front pads (EBC redstuff) and new rotors, drilled and grooved, but the backs are still stock. I also noticed the wheels didnt have any balancing weights on them.

Just wondering if anyone has much experience of this? The seller says the car hasnt been driven that much lately so is it possible this is just scrubbing off a top layer of rust on the rotors? I'm going to get the wheels rebalanced and probably realigned, but just wondered if theres anything else i might be missing?

Many thanks,

Andrew

the weights might be on the inside of the wheel... i had that and it was the tension rod bushes, only cost me about 30 quid for new ones from a member on here, but of a ball ache to change, but not that bad....

Most likely to be the tension rod bushes - not too bad to change to be honest the hardest part is deciding what to replace them with i.e. standard or polybush. With mine you couldn't really feel it at low speeds but braking from higher speeds 70+ it was quite bad!

I had that on my zx and i needed to drain brake fluid, put new brake fluid in and rebuild a caliper as it wasn't tightening on the disc evenly. On mine it was shaking at any speed over 20 but faster ou do more aggressive the wobble was. Hope this helps.

ok, so shouldnt be considered a deal breaker, more of a haggle point? z centre do some poly ones for £45, i think.

I had a thing like that, it was my mk3 supra shacking while braking. Turned out to be the new disc had a crack between 2 stud holes.

hmm, id be surprised if it was the front discs as they were replaced not that long ago - but i'll have a good look at them the next time i go over and look at the car.

Looking forward to Zed ownership soon!

put some pictures up if you decide to get it mate! good luck in the purchase!

Dont rule out the discs, even though new, it can only take a single spirited drive followed by sitting at a stop(traffic light) with your foot on the brake pedal to cause such symptons.

Commonly known as a "warped disc" although more typically caused by uneven pad material residue on the disc, or actual disc damage itself (crack or collapsed veins).

But the tension rod bushes are easy to check, they are gel filled bushes and can usually be visibily inspection for wear and leaks.

thanks all - i'll try and haggle the cost of replacement tension rod bushings off the asking price, as well as new front tyres. ive got a few things planned for it, but all the big stuff i want has already been done, which will save me a fair bit!
