I think this is quite common, my offside one sticks occasionally, I think Jeff TT has written a fix, I hope he posts it here and we'll both be happy,

i tried taking the wing mirror off to have a look if i could find the problem, but i could'nt get the glass of the wing mirror. do any of you guys know if the glass is glued on to the wing mirror, or can it be detached.

Hi guys sorry for delay,

The Mirrorfix is dead simple if a little fiddly.

Firstly the reason the problem occurs is the little motors have such a short run distance and infrequent use by previous owners does not help.

1)Remove single small screw underneath the mirror, this retains the mirror glass.

2)Disconnect any cables to the mirror glass (dependant on wether demist or not)

3)Now the screws are visable holding the two halfs of the mirror case together, remove

these and part the case off the main mirror.

4)Identify the motor and remove the screws holding it in place,a bit gungy this sometimes combination of sealant and grease.

5)With the motor parted from its geared position activate the mirror fold back switch. The motor will generally run slowly or intermittently, then sometimes with a little smoke( seriously do not worry) the motor speed will pick up.This action is now cleaning and freeing the motor armiture and brushes commutator. After a minute or so reverse the direction via the fold back switch.

6)Once happy with the motoraction, refit to the mirror assembly and test.If all ok refit the caseing glass and screws. If however it is still slow or intermittent just do the same again. I have found this to be a permanant solution provided you continue to use the fold back mirrors fairly regularly. If the problem re-occurs again its easy to do it again.

(Its a good idea also to check the mirror gearing is well oiled/greased when the motor is out)

Should you mirror motor turn out to be Donald, I have a spare from my broken mirror.

Jeff, you're a star!

That fix worked a treat on my driver-side mirror. It hasn't worked since I got the car (2 years)!

One small "correction" though. When the motor starts to recover and is running smoothly, mine refused to reverse until it was forced to stop (by re-fitting it to the gears and hitting the fold-back switch again). That could have been just my car, though...

Thanks again.

Thanks a lot Jeff, my car is now garaged for the winter and all the little jobs are going to be done smile.gif

Once again thanks for taking the time to respond.
