Cheers

Hi Matt

HICAS is the 4 wheel steering.

If it is on, it normaly means that steering fluid is low and more is needed. Try topping it up and come back if the light still remains on.

Hi Matt, there was a lot of HICAS information around last week so try using 'search' and look for HICAS posts...

High Capacity Actively Controlled Suspension:

Its all about 4 wheel steering, and if it stays lit you got probs, if it stays lit then goes out when engine and brakes warm up then you are short of p/s fluid.

I pasted this for you from somewhere:

"At the back of any Hicas equipped Nissan, there is a steering rack that, tweeks the rear tow angles a little to add stability to the rear end while cornering. Its believed that the steering is only a few degrees, but it does make itself felt on the track, giving the rear end an unshakable amount of grip. The result is alot of understeer, which can only be countered with lots of power oversteer, loads of fun, but not the fastest way around the track."

Hope this helps Matt

BTW there are issues with Hicas and Aftermarket steering wheels, as the Hicas sender is on the Stock Wheel.

HICAS

Twin Turbos had HICAS as standard with High Capacity Actively Controlled Suspension, a fancy way to say 4 wheel steering. There's a visual diagnostic mode to check for problems in the HICAS functions. The 90-93 TTs have hydraulic HICAS running off the power steering pump, where '94+ utilises electric actuators to handle the rear steering chores. Their codes are a little different, but the procedure is the same. It might required a few tries to make it work. Be persistant!

For more see the tech section on http://www.ttzd.com/ complete with groovy pictures of it working!
