Hi there, just got myself my very first Z, a 91' twinturbo, couldn't be happier :)

But there is a weird noise when the car is in 2nd and 4th, kind of a blowing noise, seems to be coming from the front of the center console somehow.

It's only when the shifter is in these two gears, and the noise only appears from 1500 to 2000 rpm's.

Previous owner said something about it might beeing a missing or broken rubber boot or rubber thingy between gearbox and chassi.

Anyone know what I mean, or have encountered this themselves? Anyone know where to start looking?

Easy one to fix that, get a louder stereo and keep it turned up! You will then never be bothered by that noise again.:clown:

Sorry could not resist that there is a rubber that goes over the gear knob, have a look and make sure that it is secured also that it does not have any holes in it except for the obvious one. It could be loose or split?. Not sure if it would be the problem though.

aaaarrrrrggghhhhh, anyways, it's under the section of manual transmission, and it's page 11 matey......

I had the same problem. i just removed the centre trim around the gear stick. and the rubber seals were just lifted off. easy fix.

As above - either rubber boots not fitted correctly or you have a split that gets opened as its stretched in teh 2nd and 4th position.

Its suprising how much noise they insulate normally.

I usually don't play the stereo so loud, the low grunt of the VG30 is music enough for me ;) For now anyway.

Thanks for the help guys, good to hear it's nothing more serious, I will be replacing the gear knob and shifter boot since they show some wear, i'm guessing I might as well just buy the rubber boots and replace hem at the same time.
