Autobox please help!!!!!!! need info!!

Hi Guy's

What makes an autobox slip!!!!.

If i drive along at low revs in high gear and try to accelerate, it slips like buggery.

This box has just been re-conditioned!!!!

12 months warranty etc, need some info to chuck back at the bullshit they are most likely to give me when i take it back tomorrow.

Cheers Dave.

Lots of things - but no1. suspect would be low fluid. Check it yourself before you go back, only takes 5 mins.

With the car & box warmed up to normal operating temperature. Stop, hold the car on the brake and run through the gears P-R-N-D-2-1 then back up to Park. Get out - leave the engine running at idle, and pull out the gearbox dipstick (its on the drivers side at the back as you look at the engine) and check the level on the Hot side of the dipstick.

If it has been rebuild properly and the shift "bands" are not slipping and the fluid level is OK then - LINE PRESSURE SOLENOID!

You need to purchase the 3 or 4 solenoid pack which includes 2 or 3 shift solenoids and the line pressure solenoid ($105 from Courtesy). I had the same problem after a rebuild. The company that rebuilt mine checked the old solenoids and they tested out OK so don't be fooled.

Hi Guy's

Thanks for the replies.

Anders seems to have hit it on the head!!

Took it back today and it's back in next week!!.

they agreed that the 4th gear shift band is slipping.

So we'll see what happens next week.

Cheers Dave.
