I have got some heated seat pads from the bay of E but i cannot get them to work. This is the wiring diagram in the "instructions".

Am i correct in putting the 2 12v wires into a + source and the other to earth?

I have tried it from the cig lighter and also direct from the battery but they still remain cold. Im not sure if i have done anything wrong but i wanted a second opinion before i send em back.

Hi bud,

Right, so the way I see it is that one 12v+ve goes to the coil of the relay with the other side to Earth and the other 12v+ve goes to the normally open contact of the relay and the other side going to the heater pads.

Can you hear the relay click? Not that that is a guarantee that it is working properly though, you would have to make sure that you are getting the supply out of the relay with a multimeter.

I didn't realise you could retro-fit them, hope your seat doesn't catch fire LOL :tt2:

I'm assuming it's this sort of thing...

It would be an ideal addition if you were fitting new leather to your seats at the same time.

i would say at a guess the 'or' live is a ignition live and the 'rt' is a permanant live so if connected like that the relay should click when you turn on the ignition you would then need to test you have power coming out with a multi-meter

Okay.

I assume there must be something wrong.

Wired up in what i think is the correct way (suggested by the forum, thanks for your input) the relay clicks into life when i turn the ignition but they stay cold. Wired up in reverse though so that the relay is always on with a constant 12v source but the actual power to the seats supplied by a switched source, they get warm.

I am sure this is not the way they were intended to work, otherwise what is the point in the relay.

It is not what the manual says but unless i hear any arguments against it from you guys on here i will just install them in the way that i found works.

If you have the relay always on then...

1) Your battery will die

2) The relay will burn out

ie; VERY Dangerous!!!!!

Also cant see why it wouldn't work the other way round!

Either way make sure that your heater supply is powerful enough, and make sure both feeds are fused.

Dave

sounds to me like either the switched 12v supply you are using is not 'live' when ignition on or maybe relay wired incorrectly
