Just recently i've noticed a fault with my speedo. It shows completely random speeds and the needle bounces all over the place at times, for example when i started the car last night it was bouncing from 25-35mph while idling, then while driving at around 30 it shows anything from 40-60mph. if i bang on the top of the dash or the plastic cover it makes the needle jump and will sumtimes sort it out.

Any idea's what might be causing it?

most likely a dry solder joint on the back, if you search along those lines you'll find some good info, i might guess there is an FAQ on it, but i'm not sure.....

Defo sounds like a dry joint on the speedo pcb board. You will need to take the speedo clock out of the dash binnacle and run some fresh solder anywhere that looks dull. Mainly around the R10 resistor area as this is where the signal passes through.

Quite a common fault, but usually easily rectified. Note that even refolwing the joints with fresh solder doesnt always cure the problem, you may have components on the board that are dead.

If you can do it yourself, then great, if not you can take it to any good electronics repair place, like a TV repair place.

You might find if you do this with one leg out of the window and with your left eye partially shut - it will work much better :whistling:
