Number Plate Legality

What is the legality on number plates ive seen some cars 2000 yr plates and uk numbers but are silver on black background on the front of cars ?

    i think only pre 1973 cars/bikes are allowed to use black number plates....unless you actually buy an old plate :D

    Ahhhh i have an old 125 motor bike ,1971 the number plate is YRU21J hasn't got mot

    I'm pretty sure that you can still only have the black background if the plate is actually fitted to the old car. I think in those cases you still have to update the colours to the new white and yellow.
