I was lifting the front up when the car jack slipped and the car landed on the front of oilpan and damaged it :( Also think I damaged one of the hoses for the aircon. bet it a bit.

The engine did not sound good when I started the car for a brief momemt. The oil pressure was 5-6 bar. There was a metalic sound coming from about where the oilpan was. Did not take the chance.

Hope someone can shed some light on this. I have never taken the oilpan of a 300zx... What can cause these bad sounds?

:hang::shock:

If it landed on the oil pan, just out of curiosity why did you start the car?

Anyway, take the oil pan off, there is a crank shaft Protector (not sure what the correct name is) the noise you heard could be one of 2 things, you have bent the oil pump pick up and its now hitting one of the counter weights on the crankshaft, or you have bent the oil pan so that is being hit by one of the crankshaft counter weights.

Either way the best thing to do is take the oil pan off and see whats damaged. get some pictures up so we can advise better.

Would just like to say, before you remove the oil pan, how significant is the dent? as it might be something else. best to check everywhere else first. might of damage the power steering pump pulley or even the forward crank sprocket. check everywhere before you remove the oil pan is what im trying to say.

This exact same thing happened to mine, jacked it up and instead of the trolly jack moving the car did and it hit the same pipes and put a big dent right in the front of the pan.

Mine would knock when you turned it over as well. I bought and tried a spot weld slide hammer dent puller to get mine out as I did not want to remove the pan unless I had to. It did not work at all and just ended up ripping holes in the pan.

On the plus side the knocking will simply be the bottom end hitting some veins in the bottom of the sump pan. I bet you a sack of potatoes that there will be no other damage. But running it will scrape a lot of metal and could do a lot of damage that way.

Repairing it is quite a tricky job, it is a good days work if you do it with the engine in.

1.Basically you need to undo the bolts that go from the bell housing into the brackets that bolt to the back of the engine block.

2. You can then access all sump bolts from below the car, work your way around and remove them all.

3. You need to make sure that you use axel stands on the front of the chasis rails, then support the weight of the engine using a hoist.

4. undo your shock absorbers from the top and undo all the front suspension and bolts that hold it to the chasis, as well as steering coupling etc

5. Drop the front suspension away from beneath the car.. there is NO WAY you can get the sump out and back again with the sealer on without doing this. At first it looks like you can get away with it but you cant!!.

6. Stick new sump on and do everything in reverse.

Thanks guys :) Myself and a friend will start to remove the oil pan as soon as it stops raining. Can't say I look forward to it, but at least I can start to put on the coilovers at the same time.

first problem:( The two bolts on the bell housing bracket at the oil filter side sits so hard that when I tried to loses it I just ended up with making rounding the bolt. I used the open side of the box end wrench. I couldn't get the the box end to fit...

Any tips on how to loosen the two bolts ?

Only using a socket???, from memory I managed to get the ring end on and also used a hollow section of bar that I put the spanner in.

Tried socket, tried the ring end, but the bolt will not move an inch. And the bolt is now rounded. I can't think of any special options because it is so tight and there is not much tools that will fit in a tight place like that.

Let me know if anyone has an idea on how to get the bolts out.

Or is it possible to get the oilpan off or on with the bracket in place??

What type of socket are you using, a 12 point one or a 6 point one. If the bolts are rounded can u maybee hammer on a 6 point socket and the shock of the hammer could assist with loosening it.

Cheers John

I used a 12 point wrench. (sorry for the misunderstanding, can't get to the two bolts with a socket.) The only thing I can use and think of to get to the bolt without removeing the turbo and oil filter setup is a wrench. not much luck with that :(

Is it possible to get the oilpan in place again without removing the bracket on the oilfilter side ?

Well, found a solution. Hammer like hell on the bell housing bracket.

Next problem will be to hammer it back and to make it fit again.
