I've just sawn mine into four pieces and thrown it into the bin (couldn't get it off without removing top rad pipe which I didn't want to do as I'd only just replaced it last week) and then managed to get one of the fan blades stuck inside it, lol!). I'm running a Koyo. Can I get away without it, as I notice some of you have also gone shroudless.

I am running a ASI large core rad without a shroud, and have had no over-heating issues for over a year now, stuck in traffic, hard driving, etc....

Al.

I hate the shroud, it just gets in the way and makes jobs at the front of the engine a lot more hassle than they already are. Leave it out ;) (well obviously you cant refit it :tt2: )

thanks for the responses. so much easier to work with it removed - I had to tighten up the clip to the bottom rad pipe (near the top). i'll see how it affects the running temp then.

It does make a difference. I have a high capacity rad fitted and on track days the motor has alaways got a bit hot, 95 ish and sometimes higher. It certainly worried me as I know that these engines do not like high temperatures, the gaskets let go. I have just managed to fit my fan shroud, and straight away the temperature has dropped by about 15 degrees. It seems to concentrate the air. What maintenance does it make difficult ? you just take it off if it is in the way. To do anything on the front of the engine, it has to come off anyway, but for normal running it does make a BIG difference.
