Problems with my brakes

I'm having a couple of issues with the brakes but first a bit of history.

I've refurbed all 4 callipers and put new seals on them all. I've also replaced the brake lines from both rear callipers and some to the ABS actuator as well. I've replaced the rubber hoses with HEL SS hoses all round and finally I flushed the old fluid and replaced with Motul dot 4.

The problem I'm having is that the brakes are binding (all of them!) and even though I have bled the system following the manual and no air is coming out, the pedal still feels a bit spongy :confused1: All I can think is that there must be an airlock somewhere?

There are no leaks coming from any of the connections, however there is a sucking type noise coming from the rear somewhere.

All the pistons were cleaned and working fine when I tested them with an airline before fitting them.

What have I done wrong?

Have a look at this link matey, it may be useful.

Had a read of that mate and the only thing I have done differently is the bleed order;

I went rear left, rear right, front left, front right, ABS rear, ABS front.

They went; Left rear, right front, left front, right rear, ABS actuator front, ABS actuator rear.

I also had the fluid res cap on when I did it.

Could this be causing my problems?

Brake reservoir cap must be off when bleeding matey. I had the same feelings, in order with regards to caliper bleeding priority. I did open a thread regarding this and Jeff at Zedworld posted some very helpful inputs. Take a look buddy.

Cheers mate, I'll do it that way tomorrow with the cap off! lol

With the cap on it will create a vacum. so it will not bleed properly :)

I hadn't thought of that doh :stupid:

So could this be causing the binding problem, or is that another issue?

If you have replaced everything with new then i would say so. its a possability lol!!

just replaced the seals, but pistons and bores were fine and clean when I re-fitted them.

did you fit new pads or put your old one back in . if using your old ones its best to deglaze them . a gentle rub on the nearest curb stone usually does the job . when you bled your brakes did you do the abs unit in the boot .

Have you done any work in the brake pedal area inside of the car? assuming all of the calipers are free as you say then its possible the brake pedal has no free play and so is keeping the pedal slightly depressed even when you do not have your foot on, hence the master cylinder is not returning completely this will also hamper the bleeding process.

What you could try is releasing any of the bleed nipples and see if that releases the binding calipers, if it does then that`s the problem and the adjusting rod on the pedal needs adjusting, it is still possible the master cyliner is acting up, and the fluid pressure is just not returning back to the resevoir when the pedal is released.

Let us know how you get on
