The other day my fantastic Z failed the MOT test for two crimes 1. Wrong colour side light bulbs they were white with a shade of blue, so subtle I didn’t even notice they were blue, honest. 2. The smallest corrosion split ever in the middle section of the exhaust pipe = gas leak. It was on a bend and I was told it was not weldable. I was running out of time so I got them to put things right, I had the new ss exhaust delivered to them from zcentre, nice, they fitted it for £50 put the new bulbs in for £2.50 and issued a new MOT. Lambda sensor wires not connected as an advisory, the inspector said next time it may fail it on that issue.

Question - OK all that aside since getting the car back the boost gauge has stopped working. The car is boosting. It’s a standard Jap import type +7 –7 display. Is there a quick fix, the garage doesn’t want to know about it, grumbling it nothing to do with them and they say the car is to complicated to work on. I was going to get them to replace the cam belt not now. Oh and they scuffed up one of my alloys.

Have a look towards the rear of the engine near the brake master cylinder. Check all the vacuum lines in that area, I would guess they have maybe pulled one off by mistake when check the lambda sensor connectors.

I sure one of the hoses near the balance bar at that side of the engine indirectly drives the boost gauge.

The boost gauge has a small unit under the bonnet to convert boost into a signal the gauge can work from. It is locates adjacent to the brake master cylinder and has a single electrical connection and a single very small pipe that can often split and fall off, this is worth checking, if all in good order then it may well be the unit, but 99% of the time its a split or missing pipe.

Thanks guys it was the pipe. Coincidence after being in the garage looks like the mechanic was a bit clumsy.
