August 23, 201015 yr I'm buying a replacement set of carbs for my XJ650 Turbo from the US. The guy I'm buying from says the 'US Post Service' is $46.30 - does this sound about right or would you recommend I ask for him to post it with another company? Thanks, James
August 23, 201015 yr USPS arn't too bad, but you'll probably get stung on import duty. You could try UPS, but when I've had dealings with them you DEFO get stung for duty!!
August 23, 201015 yr Author According to dutycalculator.com (found through google) I won't get any import duty because they're under £135? but I'll have to pay VAT on the value of the carbs (buying them for $50 as they need a good clean) so that works out at a total including delivery with USPS and including VAT of £78.38 according to that - still £110 cheaper than buying them from DK Motorcycles the breakers in the UK ;) Cheers, James
August 23, 201015 yr the postoffice will also charge you nearly £10 for paying the vat for you, i bought some upper arms from the us and they used usps, service was good and the tracking worked well apart from when they get to the uk (dont believe you have a missed delivery) i hear other companies can charge alot more for paying your vat up to around £20
