Hey everyone! as my new motor is completely standard, what would you all recommend i do first?

Ive had a look for a thread about the best path to take from standard, but cant seem to find one that answers my question. i think i would like a bit more noise outta her, as my mera GTi was loud as hell, and i cant get used to the quiet running lol, so i was thinking dump/blow off valve, back box and air filter. im not too bothered at the moment about extra power, as ive just stepped up from a SR20DE to the Wholly Awesome VG30DETT. with the mera i had to eek out as much oomph as i could lol but i dont think thats an issue here :-)

Cheers in advance :-)

Hi matey,

Basic mods such as freeflow exhaust and induction (airfilter) is cheap with added bhp, and the V6 will roar for you. Next step is, if your engine and tubs are in good working order, is de-cats, divorced downpipes, larger smic's, electronic boost controller, ecu chip, large core radiator..... i could go on.

Cambelt check / change, engine service, brakes checks ,suspension checks etc.

Boring I know but start modding with out doing them first an it can and often does end in tears.

Best advice on blow-off valves is here http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/bov.html

In conclusion: You could always disconnect your stock re-circulating valves (which you have to do to install blow off valves) and spend 500-600 bucks for blow off valves and what will you get? better performance? No, basically you do get the cool sneeze sound though you aren't going to be any faster than you were before.

Or install these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DUMP-VALVE-SIMULATOR-TURBO-WHISTLE-SOUND-BLOW-OFF-NOISE-/350340578688?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM

Don't bother with just a back-box, wait until the exhaust gets rusted then replace the entire thing with a stainless steel one - they're usually louder but the drone on some of them at 2,000 rpm can get you v bored v quickly. They're available in just about any config from louder-than-stock through stupidly loud to illegally loud.

Air filters are a common mod but in many cases can result in poor running in the rain without further mods.

Before you wonder about the "best path from standard", you need to think about what your ultimate destination is. A proper stage upgrade path (rather than "I heard it somewhere") is here http://www.300zxtt.co.uk/Assets/pdf/90-95_300zxtwinturbo.pdf and there are more links on upgrades here http://www.300zx.org.uk/tech_18.htm

Congtarulations on your new Zed. Hopefully you won't find out the hard way that the easiest way to ruin one is to hare off down an upgrade path based on hearsay without doing the research first. These cars are neither cheap nor easy to upgrade well.
