Need to get some rust repair done on the ns sill and rear arch and on the os rear arch.

Can anyone recommend anywhere/anyone to do the work? Preferably in the south (I'm in London) but I guess most importantly, I want to be able to trust the workmanship and not get ripped off...

Need to get this done pretty soon too...

Cheers guys

If Harlow is ok with you, I can highly recommend Custom Exotics http://www.customexotics.co.uk/ If you have time, pop down and see them and their setup, you'll be impressed!! They want you to be happy and it's not about them money, they have pride in the work they do!!

Hi bud,

I took my z to Parkside Autos in Wednesbury back in April he relaced both sills, inner and outer and both wheel arches and the colour match was second to none, whiist the car was in there he was restoring many classic cars, his workmanship and dedication to his craft is amazing and needless to say my z is back there again for some major body mods,, his pricing is fantastic ,you will not get a better job for the money as he is dedicated to what he does, he is old school so knows his stuff.

I know its a fair distance to travel mate, but you will recouperate the petrol money easily in what he charges.

P.m me bud if you would like further details

Thanks for the replies guys! Wow...glowing feedback on both places..I guess price and distance will be a deciding factor between the two but I'll take a look at both.

I may contact you guys again to get more details if that's cool with you...

thanks again!

Doing it properly and I mean properly is expensive and time consuming. Realistically it falls into three options.

1. Grind and then fill and spray, the quickest and least expensive option that you might get a year or two out of before the filler starts to bubble or rust come through again.

2. Grind and patch weld, this is a far better option than above but it still leaves you with old and weak metal in there so it will fail but is a good fix.

3. Remove arches and replace them entirely of new metal with an arch repair kit, weld them on, fill and paint them. Will take a lot longer to do and be more expensive but it is unlikely they will fail in the next 10-15 years if done properly.

Sills fall into points 2-3 as well unless a cowboy goes at them with a bit of filler. Custom exotics painted my car before I owned it. They just ground it out and heavily filled it all so the respray only lasted a few years before it needed doing again as one of the arches needed replacing.

This is what a proper job looks like http://www.project300tt.com/2010/01/12/respray-progress/ and http://www.project300tt.com/2010/01/20/car-now-resprayed/

That's brilliant mate, thanks for the input. As I intend to keep the car, hopefully, forever I want to get it done right first time so I imagine I'll be going for option 3. Any idea what it should cost in terms of materials and labour for each side? Say sill and rear arch? Just so I know when I go fishing for quotes...

As I said, p.m me for costs

Thanks

This is a link to the pictures i put up after the work was done, it shows the quality of his workmanship on the wheelarches and sills using repair panels and lead loaded and no filler.

if you search on threads under 'A few pics in the sun' you'll see the pics i put up in may

Artztogo - I'm interested in hearing a bit more about Parkside Autos as they're only about 30 miles away from me. Unfortunately I'm not subscribed at the moment so cant PM but would appreciate it if you could let me know an idea for prices of Rear N/S sill repair, Front O/S Sill repair and maybe a full body respray? Or just let me know the contact details and I can ask for myself? Send any info to vern936(at)hotmail.com

Cheers,

James
