Can anyone tell me the logistics of converting a Jap spec Autobox, to a 5 speed manual? Anyone ever done it/seen it done? And how much does/would it cost.

Cheers,

John

One or two points to consider, however as yours is a non turbo it will be easier.

i think the main considerations (in any auto->man conversion) are :

gearbox - obviously

clutch assembly

clutch hydraulics

pedalbox and mountings

propshaft

ecu

interior trim

but, it is quite a common operation (compared to some conversions... IE LHD->RHD, NA->TT) so any mechanic who has done such a job regardless of vehicle will know the ins and outs.

I've spoken to Silvia about this. They're happy to do the work if anyone wants it. The only cost effective way to do the job is to find a write off - preferably side impact or possibly rear provided the diff didn't get hit and push the propshaft forward.

Oh, and in addition to the above list, the flywheel needs changing.

Hairsy, how much did they say it would cost?

Have any of you guys in here had it done, or do you know anybody who has? The Auto box kind of takes the fun out of it a bit, and it scares the hell out of me when it starts changing gear going round corners.

Not sure on cost - given the cost of parts alone, I decided that it probably wasn't cost effective and that if I really wanted it, I'd be better off importing a manual and transferring my mods over.

Or of course you can always try the Steve E method - instead of buying a written off manual, you can write off your auto and then buy a manual !

Ha Ha Dave ;-)

Now that is sharp. RAFLMAO

I'm actually importing another 300ZXTT manual from Japan for anyone that maybe interested!!

Now,that's Really really expensive... Get a manual!

Craig - now come on now - are you serious - who has been mad enough to add a turbo 300 to an N/A?
