Whilst dealing with my non running issue, I noticed this sticking out of my ECU

Coming out of the hole in the ECU housing was a wire with a switch on the end??

I pulled it all apart and found the aftermarket chip that had been wired in by either Apache or whoever he bought it off, (I didn't even consider that it would have been installed within the ecu..) and this switch was wired in on three of the terminals, but I have no idea what its likely to be used for..

What is this? could it be for turning off the chip? or switching between two modes maybe? or could it even be used for turning on mode 2 on the ecu without having to pull up all the boards and carpet, and just look at the engine light for the code....?

cheers

Aha, now that is one of mine. It switches between two different maps. Can't remember what they were now though !!

As far as I can remember it was a standard map and a Devlin map............hence the "S" and "D" on the switch.

what do you mean between two different maps? how hard is this to do? and is the difference noticable?

It can be very noticeable - you could use one map for track days and one for normal road use, or one for good fuel and one for cheap, or perhaps an everyday map and one for when someone else is going to drive the car - restricted revs/speed etc.

Could this be done on a mines ecu? Also how many maps can you get on them?

so i could have one for "fuel economy round town driving", and one for "giving it the beans cos some dickhead in a scooby thinks he's mint" kinda thing? how difficult is it to install? do the chips come premapped and its just a case of swapping them in the ecu? or does the car have to be on a rolling road to get it sorted?

i've got a mines ecu too, and the chip is 'potted' in, i.e. glued up, so not on a mines if it's owt like mine...

AndyP, looks like you might have a second customer for the fuel economy thing...

well in all honesty i'm lucky to get over 150miles to a full tank, i spose that is only round town, but thats not screeming up the streest at mach 10, in all honesty i rarly use the boost unless it'm goin for a reasonable drive. how much would this cost to do (rough price) and would the perfoormance be hindered alot? or would it be possible to have it on a switch just incase i feel the urge to blow £30 in an evening?
