Hi all,

When I bought my '98 300 it had the HID mod so both were on with main beam. This was cool for a while then started playing up over bumps, then eventually the mod stopped working.

Seeing as bouncing the front end/hitting the bumper would make it work/not work I guessed a relay was playing up.

I've found out just about every HID / dipped light mod guide, and they all talk about shorting one of the relays or adding another. I don't have an extra relay nor one with a short so my mod must be different??!??!

I'm trying to track down the original mod in my wiring (I started thinking it could be around the switchgear or something) to make sense of it and get the original one going. As you can see I have no space for another relay and I'd like to figure out how it used to work.

If anyone has any clues or can help me get started I'd appreciate it. I hate not know why it doesn't work and really don't want to put a second mod on the same wiring :)

Here is my relay box

you could be using this one which can play up if the diode is not fitted on the back of the light switch (my white zed did same as yours with no diode)

Hiya,

Thanks. That's one of the guides I was looking at but (maybe wrongly) I didn't think it could be done like that because in my relay box I don't appear to have this new extra relay I'd need for it :-/ Am I getting myself confused?

Cheers

probably, did this on my other zed but i think it already had blue relay in there i think it must replace a relay currently in the car but without looking i'm not sure

I started thinking that, but looking at my relay labels I'd have thought they were all necessary. Unless maybe the headlamps have been combined onto one relay or something.

When the car is back I'll take the right hand pod apart see if there are any mods inside it.

looking at picture in wiring mod where your black relay is (nearest front of car) that is where the blue relay goes in place of it, as i said i think my white zed had a blue relay already but dont hold me to that as it was just over 4 years ago when i did the mod
