Hi there,

I was giving my engine bay a bit of a clean this afternoon, to make it easier to see exactly where rust is coming through and just to make things look a little cleaner, I noticed a couple of issues one is the wiring going to a sensor I think, water temperature maybe?

I'm not sure what I need to get to fix this, is it possible to get just the connector which I can re-wire?

The second issue I noticed was a plug found by the fuel lines running across the top of the engine, the moulding it has to keep it held onto it's bracket is broken so its all floppy and I just want to replace it really.

Can anyone help me find these parts? or tell me where to look?

So far all I've done is wrap both issues up with electrical tape, but thats only a temporary fix.

Cheers

Sikaflex/Tigerseal will fix this or some good silicon sealer, also check the connection for corrosion while your there.

The first pic is indeed the water temp sender for the ecu, the one next too it is the sender for the temp gauge. Try Mike at MJP for a replacement. I'm not too sure on the second plug

Thanks guys so far,

I've had a bit of a hectic evening... I was just leaving a junction tonight, and suddenly the car cut out and the alarm went off, I tried to restart it but I think the immobiliser has cut in as nothing works anymore, I called up the AA and he couldnt work out why the engine wouldnt start, we reset the immobiliser on several occasions but most of the time it continued to stop anything from working, and on the times when it didn't immobilise it, the starter motor ran but nothing would fire up... eventually my battery pretty much died and i've been left with not much to go by...

Can anyone think of any reason why this has happened, perhaps anything I could have possibly touched or disturbed when having the clean up earlier? anythng at all that could have caused it? Before it cut out the car ran fine for 3-4 miles.

I just dont understand what I could have possibly touched, the only wires I've even come close to touching were the ones in the photos above.

The rest was just cleaning up surfaces?

I hope someone can help me, and that I get this resolved soon... I need the car for work on monday, and I've got a driving holiday around the UK from wednesday... :( blooming typical...

I appreciate anything anyone can input.. this is going to be a long weekend...

Cheers

Have you got a series one PTU, mine had starting issues and it was down to the PTU, I had to order a new Series two version which solved my problems.

get along to a scrap yard if your lucky you will find an early type nissan with the same connections and solder them on if not i think it was the ford connections which worked a treat when i did some repairs just need to trim the guide pin off, the second pic is the o2 sensor and a bit of tape or cable tie will help secure it.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by PTU, sorry

My alarm and immobiliser is a Laserline 996V3 and I am debating removal to see whether it is the immobiliser or not..

has anyone else had issues with their immobilisers? it is 7 years old now according to paperwork.. its possible connections have just got old and stuff.. i just think its too much of a coinsidence to have just happened...

Cheers..

There has been a bit of an update since yesterday evening, I've charged up the battery as it had pretty much died from the attempted restarts, Im now confident that the fact that the battery had gone lower than 12V, was causing the screwing around with the alarm last night. So as an update to you, the alarm turns off when using the fob, the starter turns over and the fuel pump turns on too, but still no combustion :(

The engine failure light is stilll illuminated, which is what would happen if the immobiliser timed out when the car was working normally, so im not sure if the immobiliser is still activated or not, or whether its something totally independant of that causing the issue.

I need to find the 'Brain' of my immobiliser so I can have a go at disconnecting it to find out once and for all, but I dont know where to look really, they're installed randomly as far as im aware.

take of the oil cap and get someone to turn key. look in the hole to see if the cams are turning.

sounds just like mine did when the cambelt went mate. my belt didnt snap just chewed the teeth off it so it spun the bottom end of the engine but not the top.

hope its not the case but worth a check mate

I've had a fiddle today, I located the immobiliser brain so I could start tracing them through to find out whats immobilised, luckily it was just next to the ecu, but while I was there I decided to run a self check just to see if it could tell me which part of the system wasnt working to finetune my search... 55... no problems....

surely if something was immobilised and preventing one of the systems from working it would show up on a self check?? to get a better look at my immobiliser wiring I took off my ecu and put it to one side, in doing so I had to remove a couple of earthing points... (i've also noticed a rogue wire, but i'll post this in a new thread) I saw a fuse box connected to my alarm, when I got to it from following through my wiring I checked them all, which spurred me into checking all fuses relevent to my sittuation, I took them out cleaned each one up individually.. no problems to be seen.

I throughout I was just constantly wondering why it hadn't come up on the ecu.. surely it must? I dont know what made me do it but I bolted everything back in place and put the terminals on my battery on extra secure, put the key in and although it took a little longer than usual, she fired up.. I dont know what I've done, but she seems to be working perfectly??

Is it possible that I stalled it at the roundabout and in turn caused some sort of confusion in the engine management? such as within the flow sensor or something??

I dont really know.. all I know is that she seems perfectly healthy...

Cheers

usually alarms are connected to the starter circuit, door locking, fuel relay and igniton circuit later 2 not allways standered some times optional extra

if it keeps packing up after it starts to warm up might well be PTU series 1 is a alumium ribbed block with 2 connetors 1 either side on the unit looking at front of the engine will be on your left on the front of the cambelt cover just behind the water pipe

Hi all, just thought i'd give you all another update..

I got the train to work this morning... I guess i spoke too soon,

So heres my symptoms, i press my immobiliser fob, it unlocks the doors and makes all the right beeps, i put my key in the ignition and turn to the on position, all lights light up and i can hear the fuel pump start, i turn again for the starter motor and it engages but then stops and the alarm goes off....

This is the same issue i had origionally but i think my description was pretty poor and confused first time around...

It would seem to be intermittent seeing as i did manage to get the engine started yesterday, after i turned it off i put the ecu and immobiliser box back and put all the floor away too, so theres a high chance of a fault or poor connection there somewhere i guess.

I just wish i knew more about alarms to get a good understanding of why its doing what its doing...

Cheers

Sounds suspiciously like you have a dead or dieing batttery there. None starting and alarms going of are typical of that. Either that or there is a short somwhere discharging the battery. I would guess that if you charged it up and cleaned the terminals it would run again. Check the age of the battery, I would certainly try it of you can though!
