I have just done a Transmission Diagnostic and it is throwing up the code for "Speed Sensor circuit shorted or disconnected. Is this because my speedo has packed up, and is it likely to cause any problems until speedo is sorted ? Thanks Guys.

By the way, the Odometer is still reading o.k.

Quite possibly because as far as I'm aware the speed sensor from the gearbox talks directly to the speedometer. The speedometer then sends the signal onto the various ECUs including the PAS ecu and the autobox ECU. Sounds odd, but I'm sure thats the case and looks that way on the circuit diagrams.

Therefore if your speedo is not working then the speed signal to the auto ecu wont make it.

Don't think it will cause any problems as such, but it might not be as smooth or operate as normal until the problem is resolved.

I could be way off though - sorry!

The odometer part still working suggests that the speed sensor is working.

Is it an import and if so have you check the pretty standard fit kph to mph convertor box that gets fitted? Maybe this has a bad connection or gone faulty causing your speedo to stop working. That said, if that was the problem, the odometer would stop as well.

My box is not selecting 3rd or 4th - and as I read on and on the symptoms are acculimating. My speedo is in mph but car is deffo an import - but speedo it not working? Do we think this could cause the gearbox to not select 3rd and 4th - 1st and 2nd are ok although sluggish?

i just changed jap clocks to uk and the speedo and power steering doesn`t work but auto box does work fine

No the speedo wont affect the gears not selecting. If your TPS is out of range then that will affect gear changes as you drive along, but not actually getting it into gear.Sounds like its in limp mode, check your fuse in the drivers footwell, might just sort your problem, AT controller fuse as shown on this panel

Check the wiring to the plugs on the rear of the speedo, the signal gets sent to the gearbox via the speedo, which will also affect your power steering.

Also likely you may have a dry joint on the speedo board itself.
