I have a leaky split rim that needs re-sealing, problem is my car is booked on a stand at cadwell park on sunday and I'm not going to have time to get it done properly.

As a temporary measure, would fix-a-flat style tyre sealant work do you think? or would it just make a mess and make the problem worse?

thanks for any input guys! :1eye: :boat: :confused1:

Im sure if you just think about it yourself for a minute you will come to the correct answer yourself.

If you need a clue then the word in the answer only has 2 letters.

offer me a technical explanation as to why it wont work so I know.

offer me a technical explanation as to why it wont work so I know.

Its called fix a flat for a reason.... it (might ) fix a flat tyre.. PROVIDED the problem is a small hole/nail in the tyre tread.

It wont fix a side wall puncture cos it is only on the inner tread area due to the force of gravity/centrifugal force of the rotating wheel/tyre combo.

So likewise the stuff has no chance of reaching the wheel itself.:chinese:

i was losing 5lbs a day out of one of mine, yes it's a pain!!!! :glare:

i took one bolt out that was bubbling when dipped and washered it either side and put it back, did not cure it.

i dipped it again and again i had a bubble, seemed to be coming out of the rim, this time i took off about 4 bolts either side and rubber washered these up, put them back as tight as i dared, i then just used the glue gun as a precaution on this tiny area on the inside and i now have no loss at all :tt2:

will try that, thanks matey.

Thanks for the explanation Pete, makes sense now lol

I used clear silicon when rebuilding my wheels between the pieces, tightened then after that had dried then put another layer thick over the top and smoothed over the gap and left to set in the air for a couple of days.

Had all 4 wheels on for about 3 months and never lost an ounce of pressure :)
