Im getting on to the rear bumper on my swb refurb and i would like to get rid of the side markers. has anyone done this, i guess the best way would be to plastic weld in some more material (i have a spare dead front bumper).

i dont think fibreglass will be a good idea as im sure it will crack/sink

Any ideas or should i leave well alone.

btw im going for the smooth clean look- 99 spec front, no skirts, no spoiler, no rear wiper, no aerial etc. car will be plack so the paint prep has to be perfect.

If you have a spare dead bumper, cut a piece out to fit in the hole and follow this http://www.zmods.org/index.php?page=jspec_shave.

You can use, sikaflex to bond it, P40 fibreglass filler to help in the joins between the 2 and then plastic bumper filler, which is more flexible than P38 body filler.

As it is a small area, it shouldnt sag, ive had some good results using the above after a few trail and errors.

thanks mate

the only problem now is that im considering removing the plate holder from my brand new 99 spec bumper:hammer:

where do you put the plate?

Im putting the plate in the smiley face just in front of the grill, near the top, where he is going to put his in the write up. Mine is an N/A so wont matter about the airflow, if you have side mounted coolers will be fine, might hinder the airflow with a front mount one, but i dont think its that drastic

Yep!

Get it properly plastic welded.

Do it once and do it right.

started sanding off all the fake stone chip this afternoon. anyone know the best way.

On the bumper it is moulded into the finish, so just keep sanding lol, start off with an 80 grit on a sander and gradually reduce the grit till its smooth.

thanks guys

Hard work and high build primer.Sand the worst off and let high build do the rest,Great stuff and can hide anything.

Thanks guys

im worried that the high build will crack though. being a plastic bumper it will expand quite a lot in the sun, partically as my car is black.

might just give it a go and see what happens, worse case ill have to spray it again

Thanks guys

The primer will be fine, its the top coat that tends to crack unless they use plasticiser in the paint to give it some flex.
