Seen a few zeds again with the wrong type of fuel pipe fitted lately so just a quick reminder that only fuel pipe designed to work with fuel injected systems is safe. The two types look very different, the material covered one is for carburettors ( low pressure ) and will fail.

One particular fuel pipe that can be troublesome ( leaking ) is the front one under the throttle shaft. Often access seems impossible and trying to tighten up the clips is impossible, well the trick is not to tighten but to loosen, the clips can then be rotated into a better position as shown lower down where the better access allows the clip to be tightened more efficiently.

However some time the pipe needs changing and as here the wrong one been fitted meant changing it, not as hard as its seems if you follow a few tips.

1-15.jpg

The section highlighted as B shows the offending incorrect pipe, the section highlighted A shows the accelerator and cruise control cables/ quadrants held back with tie-wraps.

After ensuring the pressure has released from the fuel rail undo the clips and use long nose pliers to pull the pipe free, if its stuck use knife and split it down its length, be aware some fuel will still spill from the pipe so have some paper towel ready and some water to wash down after.

In this particular case you can see the removed pipe is in terrible shape, this is due to it been not compatible with the high pressure injection system.

So a new section of pipe needs to be refitted, but first boil a kettle and pop the pipe into the hot water, whilst its there fit the two pipe clips over the steel pipes and push them well back, leave the pipe till its super supple.

Spray some WD40 or similar over the steel pipes and using the long nose pliers to bend the pipe.

Slip the rubber pipe over the right hand side first, more than it needs to go on, then when its clear to fit the left hand pipe use the pliers to work it left slightly.

Now use another tie wrap around the pipe, do not tighten fully, just enough so it will not slip up the pipe

Now with the tie-wrap in place you have something to push against without damaging the rubber, once fitted correctly snip the wrap off.

Rotate the two pipe clips to make them easy to get too as in the pics.

Pipe in place just need to snip the tie-wrap

So all done, start the engine and check there is no leaks.

Have fun!

Just a safety precaution, is you can disable the fuel pump with conzult/fuse to reduce pressurised fuel spraying around and also disconnect the battery to stop accidental starting during work.

Yes all good advise there.
