well ust took the zed oput for a run today now i have got the radiator done and it's not lost any coolant in last few days, on getting back just now though i noticed steam rising from under the bonnet on inspection it looks to be coming from roughly centre (injectorish area ) on the plenum on the passenger side turbo water pipe maybe? i noticed there was no pressure in rad and a very small puddle of water but rad seems full at mo is this a plenum off job to fix?

also if i leave car on tickover for 10 mins or so i'm getting blueish smoke out of the drivers side exhaust give the throttle a blip and it clears could this be pcv valves? i noticed the passenger side valve is surrounded by quite a oily mess

just found water leak on either the turbo pipe or it's above on the plenum looks like i'm doing a water bypass tomorrow then

Can't comment on the steam/coolant issue....

......but the blue smoke on idle could indeed be the PCVs in need of replacement. Otherwise, at worst, it could be the first symptoms of turbo seal failure......

I'd have the PCV valves replaced first - much cheaper than pulling the engine for the turbo seals - and hopefully that may solve the problem.

cheers rich turbo's were replaced around 7000 miles ago so hopefully not them, its not a constant smoke just if left on idle for 10 mins or so does get quite thick but after blipping the throttle slightly it clears up but as i said above it does look very oily around pcv's

You're welcome buddy - I'd say it's most likely the PVCs then!!

My red Z used to smoke a lot on idle after a long run. I replaced the PCVs and the problem went away.....

.....for a couple of years! Second time it most probably was a turbo seal!

How hard are they to change?

Do Zedworld sell them? Mine has a bit of smoke, i thought it was the turbos...

They are a bit fiddly I believe (on par with most other things on a 300zx). I also think JEff does sell the valves; although if you're not too far from Zedworld he does a good deal on the full supply and fit!

Plus Jeff will give your car a good "once over" as well....
