Haven't actually got a Z yet, I have just sold my MR2 so am in the market for a Z!

Looking for some tips on insurance - I'm 37 and female so hoping not to pay thru the nose for fully comp so any recommendations would be great.

Seen a couple of Zs online which I am hoping to view this week...

Cheers all

Cheers Daz, who is that with? Do all companies do classic insurance?

Its not something I've done before.

Cheers

That car looks lovely, nice colour and the body kit is great, looks too cheap imo, it is a non turbo(i think) which go for less but have a good look for rot underneath and around! if its rot free then for a SWB (short wheel base) its a bargain :cool3:

cheers, I think it looks sweet too - just hoping I can get a decent insurance quote or it means I can't have it!

Am astounded at the prices I'm being quoted, it'll be my second car, weekends, high days, holidays, shows etc, not my daily driver or commuter.

I dont understand how these insurance companies can fail to have these cars on databases. I know they're imports but they have a UK reg plate. What gives?!! :mad2:

Insurance companies dont see that its essentially the same car. As its listed as a different model they have to take into account the repair costs including getting parts from the cars original market. Normally the reason why the insurance is more!

To be fair though, i only pay 700 on a TT Slicktop and im 23 clean license 3 years NCB. You should be able to do better than that! Look for classic or cherished car insurance - and limit the milage down to 4k or so (assuming you'll only do a few miles a year in it)

Thanks - I am doing all this - classic/cherished insurance policy - still getting mental quotes back. Can't understand it - have been putting down for low mileage, only used weekends, shows etc, not a commuting car - this is really getting me down - I want to be able to test the car Weds and bring her home. someone as ancient as me (lol) with an unblemished driving history should be getting a peanuts quote for this car!

Argh!! So frustrating!!!

Hi Jane,

Never thought of Tesco!! Will try them, although I just got a quote from Flux - Highway insurance - £390 p/a, although thats limited to 1500 mile p/a - and do they check this sort of thing? I will prob do more than 1500 p/a, maybe 3000.....

£630 with your company :confused1:

Are you calling these places or using the internet? I often find for interesting cars comparison websites are useless. Try calling the places and explaining the situation! If not try looking for a UK zed, although it has to be said they can be in poorer condition than imports it doesnt mean they all are. Although they are all LWB TT's, so not like the SWB NA you were looking at. UK cars are hugely cheaper to insure than imports!

As you know, they're rarer than hen's teeth. £390 with Adrian Flux is manageable, although I would prefer around the £200 mark, natch lol

Will give it another 24 hours shopping around - due to see the car Weds, so I need to know before then if there's any point driving down there if the insurance is gonna be prohibitive.

Man, this is frustrating!!!

cheers for your input

Jane

With all due respect you are looking at a "cheap" car there, I was looking at it my self and it looks quite good for a £1500 300zx. Be aware though that these cars can be expensive to look after! Perhaps try expanding your budget and you may find a UK car. Also have you tried LWB and turbo models in your search?

I would suggest downloading and taking the buying guide (Although if this car is an NA your going to look at then ignore the bit about the turbos ;) )

Thanks thats helpful - am aware it won't be a cheap to own car but was kinda hoping the insurance wouldn't be the thing that prevented me from purchase. Will read the buying guide tonight, have a think on. Maybe its a GT4 after all.....

Welcome and good luck in the search :D :D

Thanks, its not looking so good atm, just had a text from the seller of the car I'm viewing on Weds, I posted the link in a previous reply, asking if I'd be able to pay full asking price, as he's got someone local wanting to view prepared to pay ful price. Suspect he's gonna sell it before I get there. And I still haven't found a sub £350 p/a quote which other members on here seem to have done, who are younger and with less driving experience (and not female!)

Can only assume that its because it'd be my second car and Middlesbrough isn't the greatest of postcodes, even in the nicer parts!!

Watch this space, this could be the briefest membership of an owners club ever
