Hi, been seeing lots of adds, and saw in shops recently, Freeview receivers that can offer HD (channels 1-4 i think) over the telephone line, Anyone got this, know about the technical aspects of it all, i mean, how have they suddenly got High Definition down the copper?

Not sure on the telephone line bit but if you have a hd tv then a freeview hd box linked through a high def connection will show in hd, if its not a hd freeview box cant see how it would work unless you have freeview hd built in to a hd tv etc

freesat also have some hd stations but only on the hd signal again hd tv needed

First I've heard of a Freeview box connected to the phone line, but HD over copper has been available for at least 2 years, via your PC. "HD" video content only needs to be 4Mbps minimum, so as long as your internet connection is fast enough, then you can get in on your PC.

HD is now available on freeview (through your aerial), but only in a number of regions.

I must say there seems to be little point of freeview over broadband as the quality of service is likely to be questionable for a while yet.

Makes perfect sense through a pc!

Ignore my mention of the phone line, i must have been delirious..

The signal comes from the aerial, goes into this box then comes out onto your HD Ready TV in High Definition

Correct :) as said though if your thinking on freeview hd i'd wait and check coverage first there is a number you can ring

I've been using FreeSat for about 3 months now and i'm very happy with it. I must admit, i miss having Dave but apart from that the picture is good, no hassle with cars going past disrupting the signal like freeview occasionally did and iplayer built in!

Got the best of both here with HD FreeSat with iPlayer and Freeview in the TV, so I have Dave, Sky3 and Virgin 1, not that there is ever anything worth watching anyway :D

Yep, the only way you may get (Freeview/Sat) HD over a 'phone line is when the box or tv is smart enough to have iPlayer built-in and then it will use your broadband.

Humax and Sony do it at the moment, more in the pipeline though.

From the FreeSat website....

You can now watch BBC iPlayer on the following freesat boxes and TVs:

Humax HD box

TechniSat HD box

Bush HD box

Grundig HD box

Goodmans HD box

Humax freesat+ box

Sagem freesat+ box

Grundig freesat+ box

Goodmans freesat+ box

All Sony Bravia freesat HD TVs

Hi Guys, whats the iplayer, not anaother apple product!!

iPlayer is from the BBC, a chance to catch up on programs you may miss. It's available on-line as a stand alone program for a PC, it's on Virgin Media boxes as well and has been launched on FreeSat HD boxes as long as you have a good broadband connection. Well worth it just for when I miss Dr Who, as I can watch it in high quality through my HD TV :D
