So I bought a set of UK clocks off eBay and I fitted them to my car last night..........

The speedo sat at 20 MPH while the car wasn't moving and the rev' counter was wound all the way round to 9k and stayed there. The other guages seemed to work fine.

Is this a known issue with fitting UK clocks to a JDM car and is there a workaround or are the clocks just stuffed?

TIA

You may have a kph-mph converter fitted which might be giving a false signal or there's a bad connection on the circuit board.

Nah, the KPH clocks read in KPH so I've no reason to think there's a converter fitted anywhere and, according to the vendor, the new clocks came directly from a UK car.

Thanks though.

when i done mine it was just a straight swap over . make sure the terminals on the multi plugs are clean.

There are different series of clocks, although I think the connectors are different on them but its possible that its the wrong set? How many plugs on the old set and the new set?

Also are you SURE they are UK clocks, and not jap ones with stickers over the faces?

I'm pretty sure they're UK clocks. The MPH reads to 180 and has both MPH and KPH on them. I would assume stickers would only go up to about 120(ish) MPH no? Also, the boost guage reads -14 to +14.

The connectors are definitely the same.

I'll have a look at them next week and double check the connectors. I might even be able to make one good panel out of the two.

The speedo has two adjustment pots inside that will need to be set. Have a search and see what you can find. I do have some instructions somewhere ..... just don't know where

Firstly the rev counter needle, its more than common when sent in the post for the needles to move and 7 out of 10 will have the rev counter needle round to the hilt. It will not reset itself when plugged in, so you will need to take the front facia off the dash binnacle and move it back to zero by hand.

The speedo needle works under load, ie when the engine is started, so does the needle sit at 20mph with the engine off or on?

Needle sits at 20 with the engine running. Goes to '0' when the ignition is switched off. Rev counter didn't even twitch turning the engine on or off. Will look for the destructions! ;)

Thank you.

rev counter wont do anything until you put the needle back to zero.

It sounds like the needle has been off at some point on the speedo, it should sit at zero with the engine on or off until you move, then it receives the signal from the speed sensor in the gearbox, which goes to the speedo before the ecu.

You would normally adjust the potentiometer if the resistor change has been done in Jap clocks to calibrate the speedo. It is likely that the speedo only has a UK face on it and is out and has the R10 resistor mod done.
