Althought he odometer's still turning.

 

I assume it's electronic, but can someone confirm whether my speedo's mechanical or are my assumptions correct that it works off electrickery?

 

Either way, where do I find the connectors?

Dry joint most likely the case! Normally need to take the cluster out and look for any cracked joints in the solder and repair as required.

The operation might coincide with the fittment of a KPH/MPH converter.

Some KPH to MPH are badly/cheaply made and cause more trouble than they are worth. Go for UK clocks, problem solved

I like this idea. Will that 'derestrict' it too?

 

The car's going to Zedworld at the end of the month for a cambelt amongst other things so could fit that in while I'm at it.

Im sure it does, i had my ECU chipped at the same time so i didnt have that problem,

Is it worth doing? What benefits do you get? Is it expensive?

I fitted the clocks myself and i bought the ECU from a previous trader/member.

Its a worth while mod, its the route that most take, if you can get hold of some UK clocks.

That said, there still may be dry joints on the speedo board with any clocks you buy, easily rectified.

Benefits are, read in mph, odometer reads in miles too, power steering less likely to go stiff at the most inopportune moment.

 

Cost, depends who is selling, from £80-100 generally, i think visually they look nicer too.
