Hi all,

Car has been sitting unused for a while...

My Zed is up for sale, unfortunately.....its on firing on 5. Id prefer if it was firing on them all when i sell it so im wondering if anyone can help.....

Ive narrowed the prob down to the cylinder under the oil filler cap (no idea what number) but as you look at the engine from the front of the car, it the one closest to you on the left....

Ive listened to the injector and its definately clicking when engine is running......i pulled the injector connector off an replaced it to confirm. So its deffo clicking (not sure about working tho - does anyone know how to test - voltage, resistance or sthing like that?)

I tested the coil pack with a good spark plug....i touched the end of the plug to the plenum body as the car was turned over and there was no spark (that i could see). I then swapped over that coil pack with the coil pack from the cylinder next to it....on restarting the engine and testing the second coil pack, there was still no spark, even tho this one was deffo working, and the cylinder next door was working, so confirmed the coil packs were ok...

I think ill need to check current/resistance/voltage over the coil pack connector (does anyone have any numbers for that?).

Also could this mean fouled valve seats? Anyone know a cure for that? (I have a compression tester, but never used it!)

Finally, could it be the electrical thingy (PTU if memory serves) on the front left of the engine? I have the mk1 version still.

Any and all help appreciated.

Cheers,

Euan

Ignition coil : Primary resistance at 20 degrees Celcuis Approx: 0.7 ohm

Secondary resistance at same temp 8 kilo ohm

Injector : Resistance 10 - 14 Ohm

I´d swap the PTU for a series 2 though mate and give that a go

Cheers mate....call me an idiot, but what do you mean be primary and secondary resistance?

Anyone up my way with a series 2 PTU!??

you´re welcome

Not too sure myself , at a guess

Primary resistance is between ECU and PTU ( which amplifies the spark)

Secondary resistance between PTU and coil packs

Could also try this:

Ignition coil and power transistor diagnostic:

1: Turn ignition switch “ON”

2: Start engine and wait at least 3 seconds (If engine does not run turn ignition to

“START” for at least 5 seconds)

3: Turn ignition switch to “OFF” wait at least 5 seconds and then turn to “ON”

4: Perform diagnostic test mode II ( Self-diagnostic result) on ECU

:)
