I've installed about 10 CD players in different cars and don't bother with adapters as I'm comfortable with wiring etc. and found a wee alpine CD player as my car had some shoddy Ford Transit-special JVC junk installed.

Anyway I had spliced all the wires after cross-referencing and cross checking them and had the CD player sat by the gearstick to test it worked before reassembling etc.

The arial shoots up.

Hmmmm

:helpsmilie:

I have a look again to check I haven't done anything dodgy.. I put it into 2nd ign. and hold power down. No joy!

I jump down and check the fuse box, nothing gone there, the fuse on the back of the CD player was also fine!

So I sat in the house by the fire for about 2 hours thinking it through wire for wire looking at the loom! NOTHING is wrong!!

:cursing:

Anyway I then got back into the teeny space behind the player and had a good mooch around at the stock wiring - wait a minute.. where does the earth go to?! no.. where's the earth??!! THE CAR EARTHS ON THE CAGE!!!

So I plug the player on, the arial shoots up, I slide it into the cage... the arial goes back down. I put on 2nd ign. and I sit in disbeleif as it fires up and starts playing!

Delighted I got it going, but all that thinking for something so stupidly simple.
