Like many on this forum, you probably have always wanted to get rid of those faded velour seats and trim!

 

There is always the option of re-upholstering the car, but does anyone know if it is possible to dye the fabric to a different colour?

 

I have heard of people 'painting' the fabric and seen a number of products that allow you to do this, but to be honest, I would hate to think what the results might me.

 

However, if such a product exists, it might be possible to use a brush or something similar to apply a strong, permanent dye to the fabric.

 

Anyone know more about this?

Your interior (velour) is quite desirable and relatively rare. Most owners have tweed and the Velour is a nice upgrade. My favourite interior option is the Grey Suede but thats even rarer.

 

If you ever wanted to reupholster it then you would be better of selling the interior complete and getting hold of a tweed set to reupholster.

 

As for dyeing...I guess in theory it would work, but not seen it done myself. I would worry about getting consistent/even covering. Painting would be a definate no.

i would worry about the die coming off the sites and onto your clothes!

i asked some one in the know the same question . dye wont take because in car seats there is a high level of synthetic fibres . apparently dye will only work on natural fibres like cotton and wool.

The main problem with the velour in my car is that it's been bleached by the sun and is faded in some areas. When new, probably looked quite nice, but now it just looks worn.

 

Fully agree with the paint and dye comments, i.e. would you ever get consistency?
