ok so i have been learning on acoustic for a while and i was recently given a free electric guitar which looks sweet and an amp.

it is hit and miss and whilst i have the guitar plugged in a get a buzz/pop and occasional hiss (can't moan for free)

it sounds like bad earthing but i have checked the guitar and it seems fine. i think its the rather old AMP.

does anyone have any knowledge on changing power tubes or etc? just thought i would try to fix it before i buy a new one

cheers

Buy a new guitar lead and see if that works.

No?

Undo the back of the guitar and resolder all joints not forgetting the input jack.

No?

Open up the amp and get an air duster can and clean up everything you can and undo the input jack and clean and re solder it.

Try those

cheers buddy :)

my mate put his guitar in and it worked fine with same lead and amp so i guess ill try the resolder trick :)

Does the guitar have a trem system? if so, take the back plate off and the main earth for the guitar is attached to the spring holder.

Usually the input jack of the guitar, if its been turned a few times to tighten the 2 wires get twisted and often break
