hi guys what would you say is a reasonable price for a block hone/rebore.

Price will depend on how big an overbore you are going for.

Will also depend on the quality/accuracy of finish you need.

Will also be affected by the location of machine shop.

And to some extent by the shops desire to do bore only jobs.

The need for an invoice or otherwise and the method of payment also affects the cost.

In effect its like asking how long a piece of string is???

around here its £25 a hole Gaz...if it just needs a hone its £10 a hole

it's about the same round here too, i got my rebore (+1mm) for 20 quid a pot...

well here is one reply i got for boring the block

 

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the boring of your cylinder block. Cost to you for 6 cyls to 87.5mm or 88mm dia would be £173.52 + V.A.T. We would require the block 7-10 working days to complete the work.

 

and the other reply so far

 

We could hone this block for £69.75 + VAT

 

We could rebore & two stage hone your cylinder block to suit your pistons (which we need when reboring the block to achieve the correct piston to bore clearance) for the sum of £180.00 + VAT.

 

Are these pistons press fit ? If so we can fit them for you for the sum of £78.38 + VAT.

the second option seems ok mate..ask them can they shave the price a little as you have more work for them coming in;)

Agreed.

they have given a reasonable quote and have made the correct noises about having the pistons so they can bore to suit.

Maybe they are a little over on the quote for piston fitting. Its not that difficult if you have a press and propane torch + a freezer and the know how.:alucard:
