Arrrgghh another problem has arrived now, Gearbox not "kicking down" or changing down by its self, and i dont even think its going into first when i put it in to first, as the other day i was in first on the auto box, i set off at a slowish pace then needed to merge so i give it some, and she for the first time in ages kicked down, and lept forward like she had been stung in the arse, any ideas :) thank you

Has this always happened or a new occurrence? Your TPS may be out, which will affect the gear change on an auto, also when was the gearbox oil changed?

I have not long purchased the car, i bought it as a fixer upper, body work wise, and when i first drove it it work, then it was stowed for 2 weeks, got it back out and not working, whats the TPS, i am not on top of all the abbreviations :)

Ok if its been sat a while and you have no history, i would recommend you change the gearbox oil and clean the oil strainer, The TPS is the throttle position sensor on the right hand throttle body, its a little black box. I does what it says on the tin and more likely to cause the gear change problem on an auto if not set correctly, do a search for TPS and many threads will reveal what to do and how to set it correctly.
