My day at work (Merc garage)

8.00 - open the garage.

8.01-6.00 - mass mayhem as all customers booked in want their cars back by 10.00 even when they only got to our garage at 9.00. Tell reception staff that we cant get a whole days work done by lunch, staff agree but keep promising jobs for 10.00, 11 at a push. Meanwhile many customers turn up out of the blue wanting a "quick" diagnosis carrying out on why some warning light has come on or their engine/gearbox is going into limp mode. Mobilo breakdown service and/or AA, RAC etc like to turn up & drop off some more cars - god, where am I going to put them?! Forecourt is full & customers cant park - sales go mad as they are losing sales as no-one can get onto the forecourt. Ah yes, sales - all the salesmen want all the cars they sold going out on the same day, inspection, service, MOT etc - plus any problems sorted - "but I promised the customer they can have it tomorrow!". Meanwhile not content with this, Mercedes want me to attend a meeting to tell us new plans about training techniques coming - we are all getting a kind of sky box with a tellie to watch training vids during the day (fook knows how I'll find the time for that!). Sort out the problems of the day that people are having with customers cars while trade customers keep phoning asking for technical advise on problems that they have with Mercedes in their garage. Order parts, tools, oil etc for the workshop. Liase with MBUK on technical issues that we have. Update the diagnostic tools that keep messing about cos Merc brought out an update that fixed the last problems but introduced new ones.

6.01 - go home for a large drink!

Prob missed out loads but you get the idea!!

Has been a manic day today & was glad to get in!!

Still, there are good points:

At some point in the day will usually get to drive some nice motors!! :w00t:

Well my working "day" has just started.................

Off for a cup of tea as they are flying the sim until 23:30.

Then it's the weekly backups which will take an hour or so......

Then it's check the fault log to see what needs to be sorted.......generally niff, naff and trivia but occassionally an interesting fault that tests the old grey matter.

Then it's an hour or two of projector setup - colour balancing and brightness matching 18 (soon to be 36) projectors is almost a full time job in itself.

Then it'll be lunchtime @ 3am before a little recreational flying:thumbup1:

After that I'll have a bit of a surf until 5am when it'll be time to do a test flight and get the sim ready for the day's flying.

Shift finishes at 7am and then off home to bed to sleep until about 1pm.

Woohoo..............it's hometime for me now..:nana2:

3pm more work on someones computer, place orders for parts

4:30pm balance the books for the day, check bank, check 300zx.co.uk

Recently its been more phone calls about car problems from people, so im toying with the idea of becoming a mobile mechanic and getting a van and some decent tools sorted out.

Problem is, the work isn't always there with computers. it was before the recession hit, but now its temperamental, so need something else as well to help bring in the cash.

7.30am - quick shower, iron a shirt and get suited and booted

7.55am - jump in the car and start my commute from hell for 50 minutes past leicester on the M1 to lutterworth

8.45am - Get a cuppa in and start reading through 50+ emails i usually come in to

9.00am - 12pm - Start working through either a load of updates for the main site, updates for the 5 divisional sites or create new websites for the counsellors we have as members with the occasional tea run thrown in for good measure

12-1pm - most important hour of the day LUNCH!

1pm - 5pm - Carry on with projects/emails/updates/bug hunting etc

Can't wait till next week, we have the final selection of applicants for the web designer role which will mean i can drop all the web design work and just work on dev/database stuff which is what i'm here for really - lots of exciting projects to work through after that :hyper:
