Air-con fan gone crazy

My dads 300zx recently for some unknown reason has the air con fan turning on when the engine starts. Sometimes its would turn on for a split second and off again numerous amount of times  other times it would be on for a few minutes then turned off.

Last time we started the car (last week) the fan didn't run.....so thought must have fixed itself loool but today we started the engine again and straight away the fan started going. and wouldn't turn off, so my dad just removed the fuse.

and yes we made sure the aircon inside was off:tt2:

when air con is turned on the car revs a bit more as its should.

i'm seriously confused lol

yeah, about 1 month ago we removed the carpet and there was a bit a dampness as it had a broken targa before. We lifted up the carpet put towel to 'suck up' the dampness. Then we left it with carpet up over night....next day it was completely dry. But this only started happening about 2 weeks ago. Could the dampness have affected something?

hmmm....i just asked my dad with regards to the dampness and he said the dampness was only under the seat and behind it. No dampness at the footwell. Do you have a picture of brief description of what i should look at behind the glove box. With regards to the corrosion what can be done to fix this. Thank You Vodkashots

It still might not be that, but id hazard a guess that it wouldn't hurt to check the connectors anyway, the drain tube for the targa runs down the pillar into the passenger foot well / drivers foot well area, where it meets a 90 degree black pipe that exits out into the wing, even if the pipe is connected, you said the targa glass was broken, if water has channeled its way down the inside of the pillar, it would empty its self out behind the dash around the area the blower motor sits on the passenger side. then down near or behind the ECU and ending up in the foot well. but the path it takes is unknown due to water following the easiest route south with gravity,

Behind the glove box you will have to move a cloth like substance out of the way, behind there the blower motor closest to the side the door is on, and then a box with connectors on the front, that i presume hold the controls for the auto directional flow control. (might be wrong on that second bit, but it would make sense to put it there)

Might be easier removing the passenger seat, or at least moving at as far back as possible and laying the seat back rest back as far as it will go, remove the wooden plank hiding the ECU, and getting a torch and your head in there and having a good rummage around to see if you can spot dry water channels and corroded connections.

The Electric Fan in front of the radiator, underneath the Nose panel ?

ermmm......i dont know tbh lol but i think so...il check tomorrow and let you know.....its defo the air con because when we removed the air con fuse the fan stops, and its makes a damn loud noise when its on....can hear more the fan then the engine.

Just checking you were talking about the electric can in engine bay rather than the Blower fan in dash.

Presuming its the engine bay fan (under nose panel) you mean then Check your temp sender connector on the top water pipe. Its the larger of the 2 connectors. Poor connection will result in a lost temp signal to the ECU which will switch on that fan.

Its defo the engine fan, as inside the car its normal. No fans going on inside the car.

I found this picture on another thread.

Am i right in thinking its number 14??

14. E.C.U. Water Temperature Sensor
