Sorry if this has been answered already - I tried the search but couldnt find a straight answer.

So.... my brakes are shite. They heat up in about 2 mins. Also the pads start to rub on the disc on the front left side which makes the wheel knock really bad so its probably warped the disc.

I cant decided if I should see if the calipers can be rebuilt or splash out (eventually) on some big brakes... the k sport 356mm 8 pot front and 330mm 6 pot rear look/sound quite good.

So, my question is... if I went down the big brake route would I need to upgrade anything inside the motor (master cylinders etc) to power all the new pistons?? or is it literally a case of bolt on and rebleed.

Sorry if there is any technical inaccuracies - I don't know much about how the braking system works, only the principles! and only have experience rebuilding hydraulic brakes on push bikes!!

Thanks in advance,

Tom

nope, just fit the discs calipers and braided lines, bleed the system and you're away.

might be worth getting a brake brace to enhance pedal feel ;)

Before I put the proper AP kit on my track zed I was running 330mm AP discs with custom bells and brackets and the std 4 pot calipers and they were awesome. The 4pots are well up to the job, it's the size of the disc that makes std brakes rubbish. Big disc = more leverage and more cooling = MUCH better stopping and no fade. Admittedly the full 356m 6 pot AP kit was a step up again but when i first did it keeping the std 4pot calipers saved me a lot of money. Saying that, back then the cheap big brake kits such as k sport weren't available - 2002.

Unless you really feel the need, the K-sport 330mm upgrade kit is already more than excellent and the 356mm kit will struggle to fit under some 18inch wheels, 19inch generally needed.

I have recently fitted the K-sport 330mm kit, it is excellent. Check out my thread for some pics....

My only slight grievance and it is unavoidable, is that the Ferodo DS2500 pads make masses of brake dust really browning the wheels, but look at the pad size difference - you won't get this by keeping the stock calipers. Plus all the creaking my old calipers made has gone!

HTH:)

whats the largest disc ya can use with standard calipers then? and i'm guessing ya need an adapter plate for the caliper? are there larger discs from other cars? (sorry for the hijack, getting some new discs shortly, just rebuilt my calipers, might as well get some slightly bigger ones if poss)

^^^^^just to add on this one, my original 18's wouldn't accomodate my big brake kit but my 18" RAYS take them just fine (so it does depend on the manufacturer of the rims)

18" RAYS + Ksport 12 pots (380mm discs) + Ksport 6 pots (356mm discs) = Good fit

you can go as big as you like bud (within reason) just need custom brackets to move the calipers out to fit them :)

ref rims, with japslapper on that, very much depends on style of rim, you can get pretty big brakes under 17s if you have the right hoopage :flowers:

Example, I had 18" rota grid drifts with slicks on, then bought 18" rota gtr-d for my wets which wouldn't go over the calipers (AP). Reason being that to get the dish on them, the rim was smaller diameter at the front rather than the back, so had to change them

plus one large parachute and a whole lot of praying at the end of the straight with those chocolate brakes :tt2::tt2::lol::lol::lol:

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I know some brake that will get you in the barriers, get you in the barriers, get you in the barriers... and repeat

"First I've Gotta' have a car that'll get me to the track, get me to the track, get me to the track.........."

I know, if the Z's not ready I'll just jump in with 'Monster'.....oh wait......

"Monster's gotta' have a car that'll get us to the track, get us to the track, get us to the track..............."

hahahahahha

"monsters cars gonna be on the track tomorrow, be on the track tomorrow, be on the track tomorrow..."

but "how long for, how long for, how long for.......??? "

fingers crossed bud, shakedown 2mo at snett :)

Yep, shakedown 'til breakdown!

I would say to check out your 0-62mph time and 30m, 60m etc......

but to be fair, if you make it to the first corner I'll be impressed, and if the whole car makes it to the second corner.....well, you might just have a good'en there that's worthy of giving Peter's GT3 an ass whooping at Goodwood

Like I said on BP....if the Skyline spontaniously combusts, make sure you grab me your Bosch 044 before that go's up aswell chief

Then you could take the money from the sale of the fuel pump and buy yourself another Z32 (not far off the truth I suppose when you consider the way that they're priced at the mo')

I also reckon your ROTA's look shit on a blue car so you should donate them to a worthy cause (ie. me) with some of that nice track rubber you keep talking about........I'll even throw in that lambo door kit that you are constantly PM'ing me about for your new NA Auto :tt2:

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

bud that cracked me up, you're on form:thumbup1:

sorry to disappoint bud but the liner is home in one piece :tt2::tt2::tt2:

which means NO 004 or hoopage for you (the white ones on the liner are compo's not rotas btw :tt2:)

Still, about that lambo door kit, will it fit an R32?

had a good day all in cheif, will BP ya - already hijacked Toms thread for random piss taking

Just replied on BP, all sounding good for the Skyline mate

Accusump and switch to the MOTEC

Forgot about the ROTA's sprouting legs chief, my bad :hammer:

Go see a voodoo witch doctor with a pic of them and get some mad black magic curse put on them!

Ref your PM about the lambo door kit being used on your Skyline as 'suicide doors' that open backwards and downwards....not really sure bud, don't think that's ever been done before?

I reckon you should stick with your 18's though mate, I reckon 15's with chrome spinners wouldn't look right on your Skyline; especially on track, but I could be wrong bud, it's your car after all and maybe the CO2 dischargers under the sills would hide them well enough to avoid causing offence to passers by
