ok can u start it in gear? if not the inhiberter sw is ok.

check the trans fluid level if its low it cant get enough pressure to select gear!

check for leaks too

Take the battery off for an hour and reset the Ecu, im not sure if the auto box ecu gets reset in the same way as the engine one , but worth a try. If it goes into gear, then its more solenoid or electrical related.

I would drain the gearbox oil out first, look at the color and smell if the oil is burnt and see if there is any particales in the oil. This will give you some idea what is going on inside the box. Good oil will be red in color and it should not have any large particles in it.

It is not suppose to start in gear, most autos start in N or P.

8.7 litres, You'll be lucky, you wont get most of it out, unless you take out the torque convertor, so you will manage a few litres at least

The best you can do is fill and drain a few times. This will at least dilute the old oil. Run the engine for ten minutes shifting through all the gears and then drain.

Remove the sump once drained, remove the fluid strainer and replace or at least clean out and refit.

What a bummer, I did think it was working after you got it running. Its not self healing this one then?

Nope just doing my head in. Only had 10mins of fun running up and down my ally. Put it back in the garage now cant move it. arrrgggg.!!!!!! :cursing:

Sounds like the box is dead bud,if it has the correct amount of oil and no drive it points to one thing im afraid,Its worth Checking the filter though to see if its blocked but it still means a replacement is on the cards.

Cant see how it can be duff, was working fine before I removed the engine.

Odd it should go for ten minutes after the car was running again??????? then decide to die. Good luck with it, if you need a hand with anything then let me know.

this sounds familier... my autobox worked absolutly fine before i took it off the road... four months later... it jerks a bit changing from 1st to second (other gears fine and work)

hoping it was strainer but decided to convert anyway :P

should you want another autobox for free you can have mine once its out..... just need to arrange yourself delivery or pick up :)

hopefully you get yours sorted or you convert to manual.
