Im probably setting myself up for a flaming here, but has anyone ever ratted a Z

You know rust n matt black everywhere :D

I intend to get myself a Z in the very near future, i just thought that i could get a cosmetically challenged one (thats mechanically sound) and go nuts on it.

What do you guys think?

Ive never had a vw now will i, Maybe the term rat has spooked you all, did i not say that i would keep replacement pannels for when the time comes to sell, i wont be doing any permenant changes.

But why ruin a beatiful car design? If im honest most vw's look pretty boxy and rubbish anyway so its hardly making it much worse and besides its part of the "scene" and all that shite.

I can apreciate you want to make your car your own but really painting half of it in the wrong colour looks like youve run out of talent on a bend and then money when repairing it as its all the wrong colour.

Maybe I just dont get it, but why ruin what looks like a reasonable car - sure it might need a repsray but book it into a local bodyshop and restore it back to its former glory... Believe me in the fact that you dont want half attached wings and bits of shit stuck to it as the power (assuming it runs properly) will just rip all that tat of.

The difference as well I suppose between some heap of shit 1.0 polo is that its a euro box to go to the shops in, not interesting at all ergo no one really cares and of course it has to be extreme modifications for anyone to even notice it.

Where as you're wanting to deface a car that was actually good in the first place in both performance and aesthetics!

Or better still, why don't you just 'save' for a respray. A quick blow over if you prep it yourself isn't going to cost the earth. Rather that than half of it painted the wrong colour with some nasty gold bits on the wheels.

Lol its almost as if we have a similar view towards this!

So basically Sparky, all you want to do is buy a Zed - which you have done.. and make it look Rusty.. and you think that is a good thing? lol..

In reality, you can only Rat the Doors, Boot, some of the roof i.e. the Bars.. front and rear wings of the Z.. so it's going to look like a patchwork quilt..

The Front bumper, the bonnet, the sideskirts, the rear bumper can't be rusted.. also, your spoiler, with yours being a Series 1.. you will have to take that spoiler off and buy a plastic tail light panel to fill the gap, plus get the gaps welded up e.t.c - so it's going to be a costly little venture for you.. things I doubt you considered or researched before you decided to rat look a Z, you probably found it difficult to research.. because it's a dumb idea, also.. I don't believe the rat look to be arty or individual, I think it's for people who want to mod cars on a shoestring without having to put the effort into maintaining a nice car.. My opinion, of course.

No, i said i wanted to buy a rusty one to do it to, im not going to rust this as its not got a spot on it, it would be stupid to give it some. I have been looking on the for sale threads and on ebay for that plastic part but no luck as of yet. I can do things like welding in metal and filler myself, i can even spray myself, i just find it daunting that my car is red. Ive not used 2 pack paint before. I would love a respray, but i really cant afford it, i can barely afford to insure it.

I dont want to add anything to it that will fall off, im not going to put a kit on or anything, i still want the car to have the same lines and the performance that it came with.

If id said i want a carbon fibre bonnet bet i would have had loads on my side :D

Think what im going to do is just gloss black bonnet, i can spray that and leave it at that for now. Ill need to attack the wings and bumper at some point though, the laccuer is nearly all gone.

ps. there is no gold on my car, its ford signal yellow :tt2:

Its an atomic sign, ive always had one on my cars somewhere.

You've sure as hell got the wrong car if you can't even afford to insure the bloody thing!

Carbon fibre bonnets look crap, not to mention the fact that the stock aluminium bonnet is actually lighter!

Why would you want to gloss black the bonnet???

Why would you want to gloss black the bonnet???

Cos hes just finished tastefully doing his skirting at home & has some left over!!:lol::lol:

Because gloss red requires laccuer, and i dont have the confidence to do that on a gravel drive

Who has gloss black skirting.

Same sort of person that has a gloss black bonnet on a different coloured car I would presume?! :whistling:

I'm only kidding - you do whatever you want. Im fitting white wall tyres & know there not to everyones liking

Do whatever makes you happy, everyone else will just have to deal with it LOL

Haha, white wall tires are something ive considered also, but that is a bit to euro for me.

Cheers, lets leave it there.

Its gone on long enough already.

Ill be subscribing soon and putting some pics up of the car, (and its progress)

Well glad you havent been put of by the slagging of what you want to do to your car and your still going to subscribe mate!!

End of the day your car, do what you want and what makes you happy............just need to take the slaggings and then you can dish them out aswell.lol!

The problem Rod is that when someone comes onto an enthusiasts club site and asks for Opinions, then that is exactly what they'll get, ie; For's and Against's. That's what happens when you type "What do you guys think?" Sparky has asked for OUR opinions, and he's got it, whether he likes what has been returned or not, that's the way of the world, and it is entierly up to him as to what he does with those opinions :D

That is a very fair point Dave, and one that I failed to digest from the original post.

Sorry Sparky, you asked the question and you got your answers!! Still your car though!! ;)

Good luck with the buggy though!! ;)
