Im probably setting myself up for a flaming here, but has anyone ever ratted a Z

You know rust n matt black everywhere :D

I intend to get myself a Z in the very near future, i just thought that i could get a cosmetically challenged one (thats mechanically sound) and go nuts on it.

What do you guys think?

Well congrates on getting one, and glad you don't have the rusting problem. I see that you drivers door is a diff shade to your rear wing as well, so either the paint is shot on most of the car or someone has replaced the door :D

I still don't see what you're trying to do though, apart from de-value your Zed

Thought id revive this thread.

I got myself a nice zed so dont worry, no rusting will be done.

But it is red and the paint on the front end seems to have faded a hell of a lot.

I was thinking along the lines of this :D

Let the flaming continue :D

I'm guessing if you go ahead with it you'll paint the whole car?

I would rather crash my Zed then ever make it look that shit.

got to say i hate the look of that ratting shite to something like a zed? are the chavs invading? a z is not a fooking vw thank god

First off, im no chav! I just like to be different, no one had ratted a Renault 5 and no one has ratted a Z. Im not going to go the real rat route and put a roof rack full of crap ontop, chop the springs and purposely create rust, i just want to make the car my own.

If i can get cheap pannels to do different colours i will, i will always do mods that can either be easily changed back, or have a backup pannel for when the time comes to sell, (not that i intend to for a very long time)

Second, i would love to have the car in radiant red, but as its already been pointed out, its like a patchwork quilt, every pannel is a different colour, im just saying the worst of it is on the front and i cant afford a respray, so i can either do it red again, or i can be different. My initial plan was to matt the front end and leave the rest of the car nice, but now im thinking more of just glossy black bonnet and filter pannel.

Incidently, does anyone know how to treat peeling laquer, does it all need to be taken off and reapplied?

you should just spend some cash on top quality polishing and colour shine gear and get tore into your zed over a weekend and try bring the red back then if you still want to get a red bonnet and nose panel, atleast that wont look as bad as what you showed us in your picture.

Your red paint is past it, same as mine... the paint difference on the drivers door - rear 1/4 panel on yours looks identical to mine! I'm like matt black paint jobs, but unfortunately I cannot see any appeal at all with having just the 'front end' painted. :nono:

No, you're a victim, just like all the others that think it's fashionable and cool to have a car that looks like it's fit for the scrap heap.

Your all missing the point, you think that a rat is a shit heap, when what im trying to do is make a car different. I like aspects of rat, i dont like roof racks, shit heap cars, but i like matt paint, and bright colours, i would like a car that i dont have to worry about, a car i can lean on without damaging the paint. I think its just more practical.

Your all missing the point, ...... i would like a car that i dont have to worry about,....

Sorry bud, but you've bought an old 300ZX, if you want a car not to worry about then buy something a hell of a loit newer! These cars are complicated and old!

I mean bodywork wise, i dont mind tinkering, but its the body that gets seen and if thats not up to scratch it doesnt matter

Hey Sparky,

I'm very much of the opinion that it's your car so your rules so screw what anyone else says.

When I was shopping for my Zed, I happened across quite a few that, because of the state of the paintwork, I would have considered painting satin black with rattle cans, (I like satin black paint on cars generally!), but didn't think a Zed would suit it, and to be honest, I don't think I could've been able to bear driving a matte black car in the weather we've been having recently.

I say do what you want with it. You will encounter derision from somewhere, but what the hell. If you're happy with it then that's what counts. I'm always interested to see/hear what others are doing with their cars. I might not like it and/or I might not see the point in it, but I try not to be judgemental.

FWIW, there was a guy on here recently who was intent on turning a Z32 into a pick up. Now that's quite extreme in my eyes, but he got quite a lot of encouragement from a few on here, (including myself!), so it's entirely up to YOU what YOU want to do with YOUR car. Don't listen to anyone else or seek acceptance.

Everyone's different. Makes for an interesting world.

The problem Rod is that when someone comes onto an enthusiasts club site and asks for Opinions, then that is exactly what they'll get, ie; For's and Against's. That's what happens when you type "What do you guys think?" Sparky has asked for OUR opinions, and he's got it, whether he likes what has been returned or not, that's the way of the world, and it is entierly up to him as to what he does with those opinions :D

Rat look is absolutely awful..PERIOD. Trying to be different isn't always good!!!

As for the idea of a pickup Z32....oh dear! I couldn't give a monkey's bung hole if it's so called 'different'....for Christ sakes! YUK! I've seen it done and it looks awful and makes a complete mockery of the car.

Another good point, i did want opinions, i just didnt think that i would get the ratio to fores and against that i did.

Its ok, I will do with the car as i wish, i will keep it nice, just add my touch. Wether that means slapping some rust or matt on i dont know yet, im still playing with the options.

Keep it nice? You're just on about not having to worry about keeping it looking nice...weird.

Maybe you should have bought a VW to keep with the victim rat scene.
