Been looking at Snoopers and Road Angels. Bought a Snooper online, but if it's crap, I'll look at getting a Road Angel.

Now, I have a Tom Tom which carries things like speed limits on roads, sites of fixed cameras etc.

Wanting a Radar Detector just to be on the safe side.

I know there are various models made by both manufacturers. The Snooper I've bought is a Snooper SD715iS.

Anyone use these?

I had a snooper a long time ago but again found it pants, made a noise at everything, but the road angel however if updated through the web is an excellent bit of kit wish i still had it, mine was the older model that did not have the annoying voice though ;)

From what I've read, Snoopers are ubber sensitive and things like automatic doors on shop fronts would set it off....but there is a City mode on it. I'd rather it be too sensitive than not at all. Heard that Road Angels are pretty good.

I had a snooper.............which model i do not know but i found it absolutly fantastic.

Yes Si retail units, fire alarms, even certain traffic lights and most of them to my knowledge just have a series of lights no actual display, where as the road angel has and you dont need to worry about it being over sensitive apart from when it's located an accident black spot as there seem to be allot of those :/

The snooper's are cheaper for sure but in my opinion they are not worth the money, and the town mode hardly helped, they may have improved in 5 years though ;)

Ive dealt with these products for years, Id go road angel if on a budget or and Origin B2 or newer if you have the £££ to spend

I purchased a Snooper Sapphire last year, only problem was that on our way down to Portugal the damn thing kept going of for cameras on both sides.....but only recently have i found out theres a setting to change sides lol

Glad purchased it otherwise would of been done so many times.....loads of new cameras everywhere now....especially in Spain.

But cant really fault it tbh, very good and small so easily hidden away.

Thanks guys. Food for thought. I'll see how I get on with the Snooper and then maybe try a Road Angel or an Origin.

I had one of the Bel top end radar's a few years back(think it was a 545i was about £500 at the time when the snooper s6 was out) was real good too. Very Very few false alarms but picked up police radar ok infact was supposed to be about the most sensitive there was at the time

Had Snoopers in both cars for 5 years now, great units IMO. Got rid of the radar detect part though as they are very sensitive. If the radar decector goes off it's most likley to late anyway you "nicked".

Far better off getting these http://www.radar-detector-shop.co.uk/products/snooper-sld-920-laser-jammers.htm imo

Just depends on how you feel on using the equipment as it is illegal if you get caught using it, (perverting the course of justice etc) although it's not illegal to own them.

Again had the "jammers" for over 5 years and they have saved my bacon many times.

Jammers are highly illegal though, where as detectors are not illegal in the UK, just parts of mainland Europe. I don't want to jam a rader anyway, I want to drive within the law, I just want pre-warning incase I've made an error and passed through an area at the wrong speed.

So turning off the radar....that would only give me laser only? I guess most police camera vans are laser aren't they? I dunno.

yeah the vans are laser very hard to pick up as you get little rebound signal scatter from them and they fire in a straight line so unless they are pointing at you then you'll get no warning by which time it's too late as they pulse something like 10 times a second

So is there any point in having one at all at this rate!? LOL

that's why I sold mine....a £500 ornament as soon as the vans came along. The radar thing works great for gatso's though

If you have one turn it off when you park outside your house, if you get it near a sky dish it will jam some channels.

I'd say the road angel is worth having :) but i mainly found it picked up on static cameras, gatso and the like, and i'm sure snooper have improved allot since i last owned one with its three very simple lights lol
