Hi, every probably 3rd or 4th time i start her, or try to start her, she wont, and floods, if i remove plugs 1-4 (as the others are a pain) they are soaking wet, dry them off, put em back in and she starts perfectly (well, after a few seconds to dry the other 2 out)... What could be causing it to flood?

Cheers.... Tudor.

fuel damper or something maybe? Is that what controls the fuel pressure? Maybe as I turn the key and it primes, it's letting too much fuel in?

i wouldnt know what to suggest apart from:

*heavy floor mats (this has happened to me in other cars)

*SParks not firing properly and building up fuel to the point they get flooded

*worst case scenario and probably unlikely water flooded cylinders possible HG failure

what does the oil look like? after you have dried the sparks does it fire up immediatly or is it a slow starter usually?

when your car is running does it run smooth? the reason i ask is they can get wet when not firing properly so it would be a good time to start looking at the connections and the spark plugs themselves to see if they are dying etc

hopefully someone will agree but im sure you will get better advice soon :)

try not to worry though like i do with everything as most of the time these things are fairly simple niggles (my car had loads and getting most of them solved ---- SLOWLY)

just a thought but is your car overfueling? can you smell strong fuel smells from the exhausts?

Reet, thanks mate, starts perfect normally, although only in my garage as she's not on the road yet, complete engine re-build, new plugs and new loom, new (s/c but tested) coil packs, and a few new (s/h but tested) injectors, but as i only start her in the garage and cant give her a run, yeah, smells very rich, but i'm guessing that's because she's always on choke really? Oil is fine, and runs smooth as silk once started....

hmmm well that is odd, it might be best trying to re apply as much loom with engine in as possible just incase something isnt seated properly. although she is overfueling so i would start with looking at sensors etc to see why she is overfueling.

what i dont have the experience to know is why this seems to flood when the engine is off, hence why i also included heavy floor mat stuck on pedal (dont laugh but my old bmw does this and sometimes my car is flooded)

only other thing i can think of is whether either your pedal isnt going back into its position all the way or your throttle part (bit on front of engine) isnt going all the way back causing trickling of fuel

but ofcourse i wonder if im very wrong here because surely with no power to car when its off the fuel pump wont be pressuring system to get fuel to the piston :(

i would say its due to overfueling but mine overfuels due to o2 sensor and doesnt flood engine to the point where it wont start

anybody else care to take a guess for tudor as to why his car is flooding when off as im guessing this is the case or when its on idle before he turns off?

Could be a faulty fuel pressure regulator or worst case an injector, the fuel system holds pressure even when the engine is off, this is why any work on the fuel system at the engine side of things, needs to have the fuel relay or fuse removed, and then try starting the system, to relieve the pressure. it could also be a faulty fuel pressure regulator, start at the fuel pressure regulator and work your way back to the fuel filter. as these are the easiest to get to. if you still have this problem, only option to try would be the injectors. and although you can get them out with a dremel some long nose locking pliers and a few screwdrivers. it would be much easier with the plenum off. and take the fuel rail off with all the injectors in one go, and have a look.

Im sure Jeff with a bit more knowledge will help once he gets online. but thats where id start.

thanks matey, fuel rail is fine, and it's flooding all 6 cylinders, so it isn't cylinder specific, where is the fuel pressure regulator located? Thanks again everyone....

I remeember mine used to flood if the battery was low as it would pump in loads of fuel with no spark. Had to remove them all and clean them up. How does it turn over?

Did you have your injectors flow tested and leak tested, if they are leaking they could be flooding the cylinders over night and when you go to start her up shes all flooded.

turns over fine, battery is good, hmmmmmm, something to think about jimmy, i'll go down the FPR route first i think and take it from there, cheers....

So does the car run rich? could be a kink in the return line which is increasing the fuel pressure.... or yeah fooked FPR. But for it to flood and prevent starting kinda points to fouled plugs...... hows your PTU?

Hi Mate, did you sort the problem, mine has just started over fuelling and stumped the mechanic! any help would be nice.

Thanks

they are both on the turbo elbows, just before the exhaust downpipes join to the turbos, you'll just about see them sticking upwards, bit of a pain to change as they will be seized, you could do with getting it on conzult or something to see how they are working, if they are knackered, you can just break them off, makes it much easier to remove them then...
