starts loosing power and rev's goes irratic

right... first of all, as i think the 2 problems are linked, when i floor it after about 10 to 30 seconds it sort of completly cuts out, doesent stall though, when it does this i just lift the pedal slightly and then it keep accelarating, (obviously not as quick as my foot is not completly on the floor)

now the second problem is something that's only happened twice as it only really does it after been running for about 2 hours or so, it basically starts kangarooing, loosing power on and off and eventually stoping altogether, then it just turns over and dosent fire up at all, dosent even try!! then approx half an hour after it starts first turn of the key, no problem!!?

i have a gut feeling that this is a fuel problem?

but before starting to look for it have any of you lot got any ideas??

1st problem sounds like a boost/vac leak to me.

2nd problem sounds like a series I ptu problem.

Is it a TT?

Do you have a series I ptu?

yes TT, and yes i think its a series 1 PTU, how can u tell?

and you say 1st problem may be boost leak? would that make it cut off altogether? boost gauge shows it boosts well,? when it happens, it feels like the engine stops altogether! and dangerous as sometimes it does it when overtaking!?

Ok..... with a boost leak when the car comes into boost it will stumble, hesitate, feels like running on 5,feels like fuel starvation. Is this what you are experiencing?

Series I ptu are prone to overheating and cutting power. When cooled they perform fine.

You say after 10-30 seconds of full throttle? Is this going through the gears? Is it an auto?

yes its auto, no dosent feel like running on 5 nor does it feel hesitant,

it pulls hard when accelerating until it (what feels like just leting go of the throttle) just stops pulling, if i keep my foot to the floor is comes back again and starts accelerating then cuts off again and so on..

Sounds very much like a ptu issue. I would change the ptu for a series II first, (well worth the money, great upgrade and no more future worries regarding the ptu) then take the ol' girl for a spin and see if it still happens, if not.....result!!! If it does, repost here for alternative issues. Here to help buddy.

The majority of long term 300 owners have a series II ptu.

hi matey,

this is exactly the problem my car has suffered since buying off an old member on here. Sanat is also aware of the problem and can back me up. Normal driving is fine but when i get on a fast road and boot it after about 6-7 seconds my car does the exact same, according to garage near me who does zeds it was a boost leak as pipes werent on properly, he said he tested it and it was fine but as my car is about to be converted to manual i haven't tried myself yet.

just a side note,,,, my autobox has recently started to get stiff when changing and makes the car jump so no idea wether that effected car under full throttle (hoping it was boost leak)

Hopefully you find what is wrong but i will post if my car still does it after my list of things being done

Thermostat

Gearbox conversion,

all pipes changed and all vac pipes replaced

Speed converter removed (getting heavy steering 80% of driving)

gaskets replaced

FMC returned to side mounted intercoolers

silicone air intake pipes replaced.

if after these my car stops doing it ill post at the potential problems but if you find out sooner please could you update me too? :)

good luck solving the problem as ive had mine for months and also gotten to a point where i want it sorted
