Disconnect the waist gate on my turbos, will it stop them pumping smoke into the exhaust as my drivers side turbo only kicks out smoke when on boost. so i can get it through its MOT and get the car TAX? then i can sort out the turbo at a later date. reason i ask, is i had two police around my car today. and when i asked if everything was ok, they informed me that the housing association who kindly housed me recently. has given DVLA permission to clamp and remove untaxed cars. and i need to either get the car moved. or garaged quick.

So, im now in the process of getting a garage sorted out. BUTTTT would ideally like it to be taxed and MOT'ed then i can work on the other things.

Or is there some other way to stop it smoking just long enough for the MOT? i still wont drive the car until the turbos have been sorted and i stop this smoking issue.

I heard about putting thicker oil in, but not sure i would like to go that route. even if it is for a short period of time (IE just for the MOT) as im not sure if it would effect anything else, due to it having to sit on idle while they MOT it.

Surely a bit of luck can come my way this year, its getting ridiculous...

The MOT only tests for excessive smoke at idle & by blipping the throttle to 2500rpm & has to be dense blue or black smoke that would obscure other road users vision. The turbo's wont be boosting while stationary revving the engine so will make no difference.

Disconnecting the wastegates will stop them from opening at all giving no regualtion to boost pressure!

It would have to be quite bad to fail the MOT while stationary!

it smokes soon as you throttle it. it pours out the rear, ill get a photo, can be quite bad if the wind isn't blowing lol. doesnt look blue though its more white,

If i disconnect the waist gates and close, by passing the turbos surely this would stop the smoking? if only for a while till it comes out somewhere else lol.

Paul are you a MOT tester?

Inquired about the garage. but not going to be able to do it now till next week as they want £82 upfront before they hand the keys over. cant do it this week as just spent out on getting a windscreen replaced along with cash to get the car here in the first place.

The only way to bypass the turbos to reduce pressure would be to open the wastegates not hold them closed mate.

yep, that's what i meant. anyway panic over. got a garage now just opposite me. checked my other bank and had enough in there for the garage. so popped down and sorted it out. few...

Had a complete brain fart and forgot about my other account for a moment then.

i would check your pcv valves first mate. it could be them

yeah i thought it could be that too. the link to the old old old thread i posted in the other post covered the same symptoms as me, shame the guy didn't post what his fix was though.

.....forgot about my other account for a moment then....

lol i wished, business account, personal account, savings account (mainly for funds for my daughter and son though so i never touch this as its their cash not mine), and an account i use solely for Direct debits lol

Yes mate - am a tester :)

TBH if the turbos are causing the smoking its probably because the oil is being forced past which will prob happen even if you do open the wastegates :( The oil will still be flowing the same.

Well ill stick it in for a MOT next week and see what happens, if it passes even with smokey tub, at least ill have more time to sort it out with out having to worry where i park it to work on it.

I was lucky the female police officer i spoke too likes the 300zx or she would of towed it there an then, had a good talk about motors though and i have to say she was very knowledgeable lol, she even stated she owns a GT4 and said she would give it a race if she ever see me on the road. lol not sure i approve of that one. but at least she was down to earth about it.

Good luck bud.

Scroll down to the 4th section to see how the vehicle is tested for emmiting smoke

Well, tomorrow with the help of my trusty side kick, ill get a video of what happens, ill get one when the engine is just started from cold after sitting over night, and one when the engine is at speed. good thing is... even once warmed up and sat idling for around an hour, all it does is pump white smoke out of the exhaust that dissipates quite rapidly when you rev it, and doesnt obscure visibility. once it returns to idle you get a very small amount of white smoke. that's more of a haze than smoke (like when you breath out in winter) plus its going to look like condensation anyway due to when plipping it. it spits water out the exhaust lol

You know what. i might just pass going on what the MOTers hand book is like
