Hi,

Hoping that someone on this forum will be able to answer my question as the Merc forums are not quite up to scratch!

I currently have a 2000 (W) E-Class and wondered how easy it was to change the current white dash illumination to blue.

1. Is it possible?

2. How difficult is it?

3. What bulbs/LEDs would be required?

4. Any downsides?

Thanks.

I cannot help you I'm afraid - but I do know what you mean about the Mercedes forums!!

I posted a question a week ago and no-one replied for days:blush:

I'm sure PaulC could help you though - he works as a MB technician!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

If its bulbs, then easy to convert, you need to know what types, ie T10, T5

If they are already smd leds they can be changed, but are a pain in the ass, they are so small, but i think only newer cars have smds.

PaulC should be able to get the info

I had a look on the merc E class forum, pretty crap for decent info but they say the main dash lights are 194, which is the 501 same as ours and side lights

Basically anything with a bulb can be changed to an led.

Only drawbacks, leds are directional, a filament bulb is pretty much a 180deg light, so it depends on how they are lit from behind. We get dead spots on ours if just replacing the 4 501 bulbs in the back of the dash, so extra leds or strips need to be added to give a better coverage.
