Dibs on your strut brace, brakes and bumper please!!!

Only messin mate, what wrong with her???

  • Author

on the way to the meet today and gave it some down a slip road and then all boost stopped but the car still ran fine. then all i could here was a metal scraping sound coming from under the bonnet and the car would not boost at all. got to the meet, checked for boost leaks etc.. all was fine. let it cool down and then went out for a drive. boosted fine at first then the same problem as before happened. got back and now even if car is revved when standing still you can hear the scraping. luckily dazkent (darren from d2) was at the meet and correctly diagnosed it as a completely wrecked turbo :(

Not too bad dude, I`m sure someone will have a turbo knocking around!! Unless your`s are uprated? bit a of bitch to put on, but at least the engine is ok

probably going to put a pair of upgraded turbo's on. just got to find somewhere that sells cheap upgraded turbo's for the Z.

Sounds exactly the same as what happened to my passenger turbo.

Turbo got starved and oil and started making a scraping noise with no positive boost.

Couldnt you send your turbo's away for a refurb with uprated bearings and such?

very good idea mate, will probably end up doing that as slightly larger turbo's seem to be more than slightly more expensive :(.

was just about to say you've got a knackered tubby... unlucky dude :(

Hope you will sort it out quick!

That car needs to be on the road!

Looks absolutely awesome!

fnd out which one is wrecked, if its the passenger side you may get away with replacing it with engine in.

yes mate it seems to be the passenger one but it is no problem which side it is as dazkent (darren at d2) will be doing the work and he replaces both sides with the engine in situ.

Sorry to hear that matey, makes my day seem quite tame, but i would go for bigger tubs if you can stretch the budget.

Al.

Sorry to hear about that mate and i too had the same problem with my passenger tub sounding a bit loose. Found out in the end that the pipe coming off the block behind the A/C was blocked which is why my bearings had totally collapsed. May be something to look at if it is that side.

just ordered a pair of rebuild kits with 360 degree collars etc... will wait until i rebuild the engine to put bigger tubs on. cant really afford to spend thousands on big tubs at the moment either.

Doh! This happened to my friends T28 in his S13, the turbine was hitting the housing.

it might of done some damage to the housing as well however i have a box of turbo bits if you need anything

Mate I got my standard turbo's re-conned with a 360 degree bearing for 400 each at midland turbo's. They were all right for the 2 years before I took her off the road.

Ivan

I rebuilt my turbos for about £200 :D with 360 bearings uprated step gap pistons the lot....
