Today I started building a real nice double din centre console for my new kenwood bluetooth phone satnav jobby as well as my EDFN switch. Because of the shape of the two inserts its actually quite tricky to get a perfectly flush fit, so I completely removed both sockets and have fiberglassed all the gaps and am in the process of countersinking and filling the front so it has a dead smooth look with a countersunk stereo trim so it will look mint.

I will post some pictures when it is done and im thinking of making 4 gauge pods to go on the top over the vents as well.

I look forward to seeing the results there mate.....

.....IIRC you can buy a dash panel that is already adapted for the double DIN unit. I think Si and Legrath both have them!

Still, I reckon it's more satisfying to see the results of your own work - good luck with it!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

If you need some custom boxes for your subs when you get them I will be happy to build them.

Yeah I know what you mean, I wanted a perfect flush fit and countersunk mounting so I dicided to do it myself as the ready mades dont have the same look. The worst of the fiberglassing and filling is done now, I think one more skim of filler and I will be there but its looking good.

Just need to decide if I go the whole hog and make the gauge pods as well??

My first job when I left school was working in a car Bodyshop so im really at home with a bit of filler lol. If it turns out well I will write up how to do it all.

Cheers John im just trying to decide on speakers that are the same kind of size so I dont need to hack the doors to bits.

Nice one, look forward to the pics. Its a lot of work getting teh final finish perfect, but gives you a lot of self satisfaction.

I custom fabricated mine myself.

Si's was from http://www.z32zone.com but a third party agent in Japan is needed to purchase from them.

I have no idea how it looks in the car as I dont have any interior to put it in at the moment :whistling:. But I will take a pic when my interior is finnished and fitted but I have not altered the size of the fit so it should look just fine as it is a modern flush look... took the idea from the wifes ST3 LOL

the reason why i said it was that i had to mess around with the angle of it as my headunit caught on the transmission tunnel. i was hoping you had trial fitted it to make sure it cleared all the tunnel and wiring behind the unit :(

yes we did that... its AOK ! but we have essentially lifted it forward to make it flush so that would only help I guess.

I was just looking at my dash wondering how i could get a double din stereo to fit in there.

What are the replacement facias that you can buy like?

Peter

Very good mate, expensive though and only from Japan, some e-bay usa ones now and again but Jap is the place.

How much are they?, took me about 3-4 hours to do mine just the drying time that slows you down.

Ah, don't like the sound of "expensive" lol

About £300 mate, and then import and shipping :scared:

Try and make one if you cant afford, Mad-max is having a go, and it looks great:sorcerer:

47.250 yen = £347 carbon

29.400 yen = £216 black
