Good morning all, I am going to pick up an engine later this week, can anyone tell me the weight, or even better is it possible for two adults to pick it up and get it in the back of my estate?

Featured Replies

I seem to remember someone says it was around 250kg....

in which case 2 adults might seriously hurt their backs - be careful

Hopefully someone else will come along and confirm or correct me.

Good morning Tazzy, I belive the engines are around 250kg but i dont know if that is with ancils or not, I picked a 300zx tt engine up a few weeks ago without ancils and without plenum and 2 of us lifted it out of the garage and walked about 6 meters with it and then in the back of my van, but it was heavy :thumbup1: and we both walked like John Wayne afterwards

Without ancils and plenum it will obviously weigh a good deal less.

If its a complete engine though - heavy!!

I've just done a quick search for you - and there are members that have lifted the engine between 2 people from vans to garage floors so it can be done. But one hurt his back.:excl:

With turbos and plenum and bits on its about 250kg. I picked one up the other week and used a crane to get it on the back of the van and two of us lifted it off the back of the van into a wheel barrow. I say lifted it more like slumped very quickly into the wheel barrow. If you had some sort of steps you could make up to slide it off the back of the van it would be possible to do it this way as it is quite easy to sort of lift and slide but to lift it up into the back of a van would be difficult.

Use some wood or something to slide it up but yeah dont expect it to be easy!

Thanks guys, I may have to rethink my plan, dont want to hurt anyones back doing this. :innocent::innocent:

make a little square metal frame and stick some shopping trolley wheels on it, then you can push it around where ever you want by yourself, my old man is landrover mad and has about 6 or 7 engines in the workshop, all with these trolleys underneath them so when he needs to make some room or work on an engine its effortless to move about, clever yet simple i thought..

(obviously you will need hoist or a few people to lift on-off van)

engine and box weigh 320kg, you can lift a complete engine with 2 folk but its not something you want to go far with

Manual box weights around 75kg as I did my engine change on my own and had to move the gear box.

N/A engine is around 250 to 265kg you can lift it but I'd advise 4 people rather than two or your going to struggle , it's not so much the weight it's where to grab hold of it that's the problem.

Oh and I can confirm that the N/A can fit in the back of a vectra (mk1) lol

Also, I forgot... I lifted(rolled) the engine(minus ancils and plenum) down a plank out of the van on my own and placed it on my trolley jack and wheeled it to the other side of my garage...dead easy :sweatdrop:
