Hi all, my speedo is playing up. Its well strange. I have had problems before in the past with speed sensors but that was with my old auto box. This time the speedo doesn't move. Then by magic it will move to about 15/20 mph and if i tap the cluster it will drop.

Then if i drive a bit harder it will sometimes rise. Thing is though my steering never goes stiff like the old sensor problems. Its just got a mind of its own FFS:hammer:

any ideas?? do you think the converter has gone (or going) plus the needle never sits at 0 mph when stopped. its at 5mph...

Sounds like a dry solder joint mate, try resoldering the back of the clocks, that should fix it.

Hi Mark, I think i may have mentioned before that the needle has been off at some time.

It needs to sit at zero when under load, ie ign on engine on.

You will need to take the perspex front off the dash binnacle and ease off the needle with a fork or similar and re place the needle at zero on the pin while the engine is on.

If it were a case of the speedo being temperamental and rest at zero when off then it would be a dry joint issue on the speedo circuit board.

Cheers for the response. I will try the needle thing as you told me before lol. Thing is the needle has sat at zero the last few times i drove it......when im doing 80mph LOL

How would i find a dry joint??

Did you manage to find that pic of the light relay bud. I know where it is but how do you connect the wiring??

Hi Mark, if you look at the rear of the board at the solder tracks, dry joints tend to look dull, but not all dry joints can be visible to the naked eye, its a case of using a soldering iron with new solder and basically re-tin the existing tracks and components being careful not to over do it and cross over to other components on the board.

I will have a check on the interior relay diagram post it up

Cheers

Graham
